any tips on getting tyre valve through rim
« on: September 16, 2014, 12:14:32 AM »
Hello there
Just did a tube repair and lucked out on getting the tube valve back through the rim quite easily.   But it bought back recent memories of doing two tubes on the side of the road with in a couple of hours of each other, with both being a prick to get the valve stem through the rim.

Any one have a swear free way of doing this that I haven't seen?

I've always poked the stem through first and attached the lock nut, then put the rest of the tube in.  Never had an issue getting them in.  ;D

There are special valve stem fishing tools out there, but I do what TB mentioned - catch it with a locknut.

It always helps to put a little air in the tube first then start at the valve and work your way round.
