'78 CB750F Wheel Swap
« on: September 15, 2014, 01:37:11 pm »
I have combed the forum with help from the search function and am left with some questions. What is the easiest, closest to bolt on modern wheel conversion for the 78F? I plan to leave as much stock, or returnable to stock as possible. What are your thoughts? Opinions? Thanks as always in advance.

When you find out, let me know  ;D

Seriously, I have 78 Comstars in my K3F project and I would like to have tubeless wheels eventually.  From the research I done it looks like 1979 CB750 SuperSport used the same looking wheels, but made for tubeless tires.  The way Honda makes parts, I would be inclined to believe that they are direct fit for 78 SuperSport.

Did you look into Gold Wings?

Edit:  This is rear wheel for 79SS:

How modern do you want to go?

What kind of wheels you want to do? Just modern mags or spokes?

The swap is more than the wheel. it is the brakes as well. If you are going to this effort swap the front end to a more modern front end with decent brakes. Then figure out the back end.

Going to modern wheels opens up the door for better and easier to find tires. Think about an 18 front and 17 rear or maybe even a 17 and 17.

I am running alloys off a 1983 cb1100f 18 front 17 rear with 2 dual piston calipers up front and a single dual piston in the rear. More modern than 1976 but not late 90's or 2000.

I have done the dual piston conversion all around. I am running brakes off a v65 magna. I want to keep the forks stock if possible, but am open to any modern wheels that are tubeless. I have seen people going with cbr f2 wheels, but from what i have seen they are doing new front ends completely. Can those wheels be ran with new spacers made? Possibly new caliper hangers? I have a buddy that has a machine shop so simple parts like that are attainable.
