CB550 Clutch question
« on: September 22, 2014, 11:21:54 AM »
I had recently changed the clutch springs and plates.  I reinstalled the basket and put everything back on the motor.  I  tried the hand control for the clutch and it seems stiff.  I also was able to shift gears without using the clutch.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance

One can generally change gears without the clutch with some strain on the transmission.
New springs can increase clutch pull, of course. Presumably they were changed because they had weakened/shortened.
Is the clutch slipping? Does it release properly? Did you readjust the clutch ramp to suit the new plates? Did you re-route the cable - this can make for an unbearable clutch pull?

So i bought this new set of clutch springs which were slightly thicker than the original once.  I tightened them down till the plate was tight onto the 4 protrusions in the clutch basket.  when I connected the clutch cable, the clutch compressed but stiff.  i was worried I was going to break something.  I'm wondering if the increased thickness of the springs had something to do with it.  I'm thinking of putting the original ones back.
