Calling all city dwellers (and Terry)
« on: September 30, 2006, 03:03:13 AM »
Got back from a 2000km around the South Island of New Zealand trip last week. Eight of us from work on hired BMW's. A fantastic trip, plenty of twisties and great scenery. "Danger" Dave lived up to his name as usual. Jodi was clocked at 153 kph and had to hand over her licence on the spot. Had to park her bike up straight away. Total cost for off-season bike hire, petrol, oil and accommodation (backpacker) was $110 US per day.  You could pay that much to swing in a hammock in Tahiti or Fiji but your pulse rate wouldn't register much above "barely alive". We are doing a similar tour next year. Think about it, little or no cellphone coverage, txt, pxt, newspapers, television or other civilising crap for four days. Talk about clearing your head out!

No trouts were harmed during this production. Took my K0 through 82 miles of twisties out to Banks Peninsula and back today with my son. Harsh suspension, no heated grips, no gel seat, no ABS brakes, no variable height wind-screen, only 67 odd horse power, no "comfort, sport or normal" suspension settings...I like living in the 60's.....I'ts all good, just to be on the road....

Wife and I spent 2 weeks touring the South Island (loved it!) on holidays last year (in a camper van) and said how much we'd love to do the same trip on bikes - you've really got us thinking now.........mmmmmmmm........wonder how much it'd cost to ship the 750 and 400 over there and back? But at those prices, it would probably be cheaper to hire like you did.

G'Day TC, sorry mate, I just saw this post for the first time, bloody fantastic! I better start saving up now mate, that looks too good to miss next year! I could take my (beautiful) BMW K1100LT, but why bother when I can hire one of those beauties? 110 bucks a day? Magnificent! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
