All riders please wear a helmet

Hadn't seen him in quite some time but a former co-worker was killed in Myrtle Beach, SC in a bike accident early Friday morning.  Don't know any details of the crash other than I don't think he was wearing a helmet :( South Carolina does not have a helmet law requiring riders to wear a lid.

There's been quite a few motorcycle deaths here in Indiana this year, most had no helmet on. I know it's everyone's right to wear a helmet, but I agree with dhall57, please wear one.... we always do when riding. And I make my kid wear one when he's riding.

Michigan repealed their helmet law, but I will always wear mine.  My preference.

We have had a helmet law in NY since 1970. I do believe in personal freedom, but I also believe in common sense.

I almost left without one on the 50 last night, decided to wear it. I always think the time I don't wear it is when I will get run over.

We don't have a choice over here, and for that I'm thankful. I was catapulted over the handlebars many years ago by a dog running into my path, and I slid for some distance head-first. If I hadn't been wearing a lid I'd only have half a face now (although some might argue that would be an improvement ;D)

Trevor (B.O.X.K.N.I.F.E.) wasn't wearing a helmet either.

Broken bones will at least heal, but damage to the grey matter is often permanent. I wear one even though it's optional here in Florida.

...and don't just wear a helmet, get a full face and keep your faceshield closed!  I got hit in the cheek with a walnut today...was out on my favorite twisty forest road, came up behind some slower traffic, decided it was safe to catch a little extra breeze, opened my faceshield, and promptly got smacked by a walnut...it hurt but it's ok now, coulda been worse though
If it works good, it looks good...

Will say everytime I have seen Sean B ^^ on the road he is 'geared up' with proper riding goodies. We older riders have lots of stories, but after suffering through two cracked helmets and seeing another from a friend riding my bike (totaled), I will never ride without one also. Now if I can just train myself to wear a descent jacket,  thick pants, gloves and a good pair of boots I may live to be old with all my skin   ::)

I don't know if any of you are gun guys, but Nutnfancy and his son were out riding recently and his kid low-sided after locking up the front brake at about 50-60mph. He had all of his gear on except short non-riding boots. Broke his Fibula and a chunk off his...tibula? (both on the bottom of his leg). Had he been wearing shin gaurds or even higher riding boots he would have just been shaken up.

Once I start riding you can bet I'll have my gear on.

you don't have to be going fast or doing stunts to get hurt, lots of road riders have never been dirt bike riders, dirt bike riders have a spill most rides of some sort and learn how to crash so to speak,if your a road rider and never dropped a bike be prepared!

I know of a guy who died doing a u-turn, no helmet, fell and hit his head on the gutter. ....in front of his kids. Ok he was pissed, but if he had been wearing a helmet he might have only hurt his pride.

Wear a helmet. ...it's a no brainer (no pun intended).

I fell once while riding my bicycle w/o a lid and smacked my head on the pavement. It couldv'e ended up being a lot worse. I wear a helmet on anything that goes over 10 MPH.

Agreed. And after being hit in the face a few times with things like insects, gravel, etc., I always wear a full face helmet. I love the easy rider appeal of no protection but it's not worth the danger. Plus it allows me to watch the TV screen built into the visor.

Just kidding. Wear a helmet and pay attention. XO

My cb550 build is my first bike ever.  I wear my helmet everywhere I go.

I don't see how people feel even a tad bit safe riding around w/o one.  I think out of the 10 or so people on my shift at work, I'm the only one that wears one.  Just seems crazy to me

Pennsylvania repealed it's helmet law in 2003. I wear my full face wherever i go. It's crazy how many people I see on a daily basis riding with nothing between them and the pavement.

http://kansasfirstnews.com/2014/10/21/motorcyclist-killed-in-sardou-bridge-accident/

I was at band practice last night. One of my bandmates' daughter was the responding EMT. The rider was not wearing a helmet and she said the back of his head was bashed to smooshytown.

In the meantime, the folks that hit him were little homies in their caddy with big chrome rims who immediately fled the scene before finally turning themselves in.

Damn shame. Just a damn shame.

This is me EVERYTIME I ride.
When I bought my first helmet back in 84 (I think) my Dad was mad at me for spending $150 for a Nolan full face. It was a great helmet. I just quoted a statement I had seen while in the shop on a poster for Bell.
"If you have a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet"
From then on I have bought the best helmet and gear I could afford. That is also the advice I give to anyone who thinks about getting on a bike.

I have a rule for my kids also, No helmet, no Wheels. This applies for skooters, bikes, and boards. It also applies for all visitors.

+1 to this.
I just wish they had a line full face kid helmets...lightweight ones for scooters and bikes, similar to MC helmet design.
Not the open dirt style.
It'd be much more protective than the hard foam crap most kids, including mine, wear  ::)

Considering all the accidents we hear about and 'close calls' I & others have on a daily basis, not wearing a helmet is sure putting a LOT of trust in 'cagers' driving a 4 wheel 'deathtrap' who are driving 'blind' as it is with texting & all other types of inattention behavior that creates an attitude w/ these cagers of 'out of sight out of mind',at least from the way I've seen it over the years so far...  I liken it to motorcyclist's having some secret type of suicidal 'death wish' of sorts...or just way Too much trust in the other 'mindless' drivers on the road around them. The majority of 'cager only' mentality I've noticed seems to be like "if you're on a M/C you shouldn't be on the road" type of road rage. I must be on the wrong roads lately..  ::)
