Kenmore Range and the damned F2 error code
« on: October 12, 2014, 07:05:43 PM »
So, has anyone dealt with this one? A quick google search shows that this could be an easy peasy baking temp sensor, or the painful electronics control unit. If its the latter, I might as well get a new range, those things are pricey :(

Ok if it's standard glitch for that range look for a control re builder where you can exchange the part

OK this is strange. The buzzer throws a fit and won't stop until I unplug the unit IFF I set the clock right. If I leave the clock alone after plugging it back in, its all happy  :o This thing must hate the timezone or something. I will have the wife test out the oven again today, if it goes beserk again, I'll start pulling parts out to check. Last October, it was my dryer that was going nuts, this year its the range. I wonder if next Oct will be the washer or the fridge  >:(

Oh and Cal, the 750 got its own oven  8), and its cleaner than this one, aiding me win the argument of "I told you it will get gunked up"  :P

F2 error code HAS to be the valve guides!

Anyway, good luck with the range.

The ol' head in the oven will always give me an FU error message.

I'd MUCH rather have a head in the oven than a bun in the oven! That would be a serious Fn error.

LOL

I checked out the sensor today, can't really tell if its toast. Its supposed to have a reading of 1100ohms, +/- 10% and its reading 1000ohms on the dot. Technically its close to being good, but I'm gonna try and change it out first. You guys can carry on with your fun ;)

How do you test the controller? Is there a wrecker for these things? Where do discarded ranges go? Who makes the Kenmore? Wonder what a used unit vs a new one would cost?

If it is a $15 part I would change it out to see if maybe the old sensor is going bad at temperature.
I assume you reset the logic board, yes?

Its about $30 and since the reading so erring on the bad side, I'm going to change it anyway. If its the board, then I'll look into new range prices first. Nearly $200 for the board.

Well, looks like I'll be looking at a new range anyway. I found out the model number, the range was made by GE and the replacement sensor is a whopping $104 and the timer board is NLA (if it was, I'm guessing it would be insanely priced too). I could gamble with a cheap generic and splice the connecting ends, but if I do that, there's no chance of returning it if doesn't work.

Try the cheap generic route if it is about $20 or so.
Did you check Supco for sensors?

Not yet, I was looking at repairclinic and they seem to carry generics with adapters. Thing is, it hasn't beeped in two days now, so I wonder if there was a short that fixed iteself once I was done testing?
