Firstly I would like to say that if you asked me 20yrs ago I would have told you where to stick your Harley, these days they are built well very reliable and don't leak oil, well mine has been great to me I purchased it new in 2010 and is my daily ride.
Also I might add that sometimes I just want to sell my Harley as I really don't like the attitude of most Harley riders as they think no other bike exists and they all think a Harley is the best bike on the planet!!!
There are a fair amount of old Harley's about but they are mostly on historic club rego and some of those bikes can be up to $50k which is just crazy also.

I have many other old bikes as I do like many makes and models of motorcycles and enjoy riding the classic bikes for what they are and always keep them to how they were from the factory as they do look much better that way.
Except for my Harley all my bikes are on Historic plates as the full registration is way to expense to have more than 1 bike on full rego.

I wish I lived in the USA you guys seem to have many old bikes for a good price, here in Australia some people would ask anything up to $20k for a good Honda CB750, as for the Kawasaki Z1 they have been anything up to $25k which is just plain stupid if your asking me, but I guess a bike is worth as much as someone will pay for it.

Wow, Rocky, that explains a lot: I get some interesting inquiries for Down Under for whole bikes, even parts, at quite high prices. I guess that's why? Some have even asked me to build whole bikes for them so they can ship them there. Wow!

I did go into a Harley dealership once looking at a modern bike - they had the worst attitude problem.  I felt like punching a kitten after talking to them.

I guess that all depends on the dealership you go to. I talked to an engineer at work who bought an HD a few years back and it turns out he actually preferred the Kaw v-twins however it was the Kaw dealership that had the attitude and wouldn't work with him. He didn't like the rims on the Kaw he was looking at and wanted to swap them for another set, nothing special about the other set in fact they didn't cost anymore than the rims that were on the bike but he would've had to pay full price for the other set plus install charges. He instead took his $ to an area HD dealer who had no problem swapping different rims on the HD he looked at. He bought the HD instead because of the Kaw dealers attitude.

Thoughts on harleys mostly idiot dentist, doctor, real estate agents that try an put me down because it's not a harley not a real bike, and the fringes on their handlebars cost more than most of the bikes I own, at 75, poseurs make my legs ache and my heart to skip a beat and if I reply it's to say yes I rebuilt it by myself and no I don't need CAA because I can fix it myself and I watch how much gas I have so about then their eyes glaze over and I walk away. Here, they're a blight and if someone gave me one I would say no thanks if you don't like my Japanese junk I don't like your American junk.

It seems that you have plenty of Hondas; when you decided to buy a modern bike why was it also not a Honda? Have they treated you badly? Do you think their new bikes are inferior to the old? Honda's cruisers are junk?
Or did you just have to have a harley because everyone else has one?

This seems to be your main idea here that anyone who owns a harley must be some poser merchandising d-bag just going for their glory days on two cylinders. Its a shame you havent actually ridden one to get a real first hand comparison. There are many different bikes for many roles. In the U.S there is an abundance of space to be seen, and Harley caters to these needs. You never see the real Harley enthusiasts because they aren't standing around in 700$ of logo #$%* talking about riding, They're riding. Just my 2 cents as i've seen both sides of this fence.

I have ridden one; post number 2. Buddy said big harleys don't  have a lot of cornering clearance, it's inherent in the breed, not poor maintenance or anything like that. It's just not what they're designed for and I have no problem accepting that. He also earned my respect by admitting outright that he knows full well that the japs are great bikes but he loves the image more than anything else. Refreshing candour.
Don't feel a need to defend the "d-bags and poseurs"; I don't believe that you are one in the first place.
Believe me, they have no problem speaking for themselves.

Can totally agree with that.  I missed where you had said youve ridden a Harley but i must say that if you have not been on one in the last ten years that it may be time to check up on them. I was at a dealer getting parts to repair some accident damage last week and saw one of the new Street 750cc bikes. I think around 8k$ and it looked pretty good, and iv'e heard good things from road tests. Not really my style it looks too modern, but the company is doing good things with the money they're getting from t-shirt sales  . Not trying to defend the weekend warriors, more of a rant really. That kind of pompous behavior really looks bad on all bikers. I'm just as saddened every time some guy thinks that 30,000$ and 30 miles makes you a biker. Its insulting really.
