81 cb650 progressive spring question
« on: September 21, 2014, 09:01:52 PM »
ordered progressive springs for this bike.. they are at least 3/4" shorter than factory.  when I removed the air caps there was no pressure on them at all...  so.. made 3/4" spacers out of pvc since the progressive instructions didn't have any info... read in another thread here that the spacers should be 'almost' to the top of the fork prior to cap..

installed the caps back on, was a little bit of pre-load, not too bad.  forks had no oil so used ATF up to 5.5" from top of fork (per progressive instructions)...

does this sound like enough pre-load or should I need longer spacers?

also when I installed the right cap.. it is 90 deg off and I can't hook the air cross-over up.. doesn't seem to matter where I start it as it will only thread in at one point.. if I turn it to line up the cross over, its not seated tight at all.. seems like Im doing something wrong here..

As for the preload, I always make it so that the spacer rides about 1/2-5/8 of an inch above the fork with it extended before installing the cap...

As for aligning the caps for an air line, why not just loosen the triple tree clamping bolts on one fork and turn it after the cap is on tight?

Is there anything more fun than riding? They are between your legs and are quiet when you turn them off.
