1972 CB500 Control Re-Wire
« on: September 21, 2014, 07:31:46 PM »
Hey guys!

I'm currently replacing the handlebars on my CB500.  I'm also trying to clean up some of the controls at the same time.

The starter button was not operating before I started this project.  The starter relay and starter are fine and have been tested. I noticed that the yellow/red wire was disconnected from the starter button.  I'm assuming I need to solder it back to the control button.  I'm not sure how to go about this.  The screws in place will not seem to unscrew.  Should I try penatrating oil?  After I remove the brass holding, where should I place the starter wire back?

You guys rule by the way.  This forum has been a lifesaver.

EDIT:  Oh god I need a manicure.

Do you have an impact driver? If not, put that on the list, it is a necessity when working on these old bikes with screws that have not been removed for decades.

I've had bad luck working on the starter switches and now I just prefer to install a new control when not working properly.  The switch itself is not available.
