But seriously never owned one but I've always like the style and look of the CB450. What is it a 1970

Yes 1970. Clean title, great deal for me.

Bit of a tense moment when the rear wheel was completely frozen, turns out the brake was a bit stuck. Spins  ok now. Not the motor though, hopefully just a bit of rust in the rings... Shifter seems to work fine and PO says he had it unstuck about a year ago. We all know what that means

Tires are new. Maybe 15 years old but new.

I'll be starting a build thread, would like to restore to factory since all is there.

Put some ATF down the plug holes and let it sit for just a little bit. Put the bike in one of the higher gears an gently rock in back and forth. If it's just stuck from sitting for a long period this should free it it up. I had the same problem with the CB750K4 I bought earlier in the year and it came free fairly easy.

You are right it freed right up, really didn't take much. Nice to hear floop-floop, kicker now turns over motor as well. Next step see how much compression...

On the up-side, removing screws/bolts seems reasonable. Underneath the crust is this:



We'll see when we get to the head nuts...

Where's waldo? Told my wife I came across a potential deal on CL she asked "Can you ask if you can pick it up today?" Not complaining.



Also, "un-seizing" the motor took surprisingly little effort as I mentioned earlier. This was advertised as a seized engine, I was fooled... Should I attempt to start it as is? Do I risk grenading it? Of course I'd be checking compression, timing, valve adjust etc... And eventually it will be refreshed, but can't wait to hear it run.

Forks look ok from there on down. If so (still need to inspect around the seals), I'll probably sand/paint so they don't rust more, the gaiter/ears will stay on top.

I'll look for a soda blaster, sounds like a great idea.

I'm excited because this bike is older than me and it's the first such old bike I've been able to dig up complete. My 550 and 750 came painstakingly bit by bit...

Got pulled over today on the 550. Proof of insurance was home so there's that, be in court that day hopefully judge will be in a good mood... Otherwise he couldn't find anything wrong. Had to show the headlight worked because I turn it off when stopped. Signals etc. everything's there.

Interesting, as a matter of fact, the brake rotor is the same as the 750 also, and seems the brake setup is similar (my 750 is a k8 so different).

I like the color, hope I can keep it/touch it up there are some small rust specks on the otherwise mostly intact tank...

He is enjoying a lot. we went for a nice 90 mile ride last evening and ended up at a fantastic bbq place. We were on back country roads and at one point went 10 miles without seeing a single car. it was great. he will be commuting on it about 15 minutes each way. no traffic on his route either. very happy for him but still nervous as it's still in the beginning stage of the bike and I feel so responsible for every little bit

Chef, that is such a cool story, a real tear jerker

I need to finish my K8, this looks like a winter project...

I did a quick compression check and it reads 90 on both cylinders.

One issue is an o-ring chain: clutch arm a bit chewed up.
