shipping engine
« on: September 30, 2014, 04:09:36 PM »
Hey guys, Any suggestions on shipping an engine? The weight really makes it awkward to say the least.
What am I doing and why am I doing it? Those are excellent questions.

Strap it or securely band it to a small wood pallet. The freight mover guys will like you. Build a box around it and the pallet if that is even necessary.

+1.........suggest strapping motor with crank placed cross-ways to the single tunnel on a small or cut-down pallet. That will keep the package from tilting when carried by one tine on the fork-lift.

Thanks. I figured a custom pallet would need to be made, but really what I'm inquiring about is the actual shipping. Like, Who do I get to ship this 250 pound engine? I've shipped frames with Greyhound. They're bigger but weigh less than a third of an engine, so they could pick it up. I don't have a fork lift, so, I move it around on dollies or a two wheeler.

What am I doing and why am I doing it? Those are excellent questions.

Air-Freight is actually a LTL-trucking company with terminals near all major airports.........you deliver and the customer picks-up for best rates. They also provide local pick-up and delivery.

American Van Lines.........

Fastenall...........If you have a store near you, they ship your freight along with their own to another store near your destination.....at very low rates.

Haul-Bikes..........

Looks like you have several cb750's.  If you're shipping a cb750 engine then I believe it weight 176 lbs plus the pallet.

What can i say? When i like something, I buy a lot of them. Out of all of those I only have 4 roadworthy, plus a chopper project (which is why I want the engine). Thanks for the info.
