Project Update and Suspension Help
« on: June 19, 2015, 09:37:07 AM »
Good Morning CB lovers,
So it has been about 4 months since I posted something on here. i wanted to give an update for my project and I have few questions.
UPDATE:
Frame Painted
Swing Arm painted
Front Rear Wheels laced and trued
Forks rebuild and painted
Questions:
I need Rear Shocks!!
I am running a 78 GL1000 front end with the 19' wheel and a CB750 rear wheel 18'.
what length shock do I need for this setup? when I look up shocks there is different lengths like from 11 to 14 inch.
Will these work for my setup?

You should start a thread in the projects forum! Keeps it all in one place for easy reference later.

Are you using the stock swingarm with stock shocks? How much taller is your front end now, compared to stock? For best handling, you'll want to match fork angles as close to stock as possible, which may involve using longer than stock shocks.

Those shocks will not work. You need a clevis on the bottom of the shock, not an eye. Look for "eye to clevis shocks". Check out Hagon, etc..

Sorry, but Amazon is NOT always correct about fitment. You will need an eye to clevis shock for 1979-82 CB650 models.  The ones pictured are eye to eye.  MORE IMPORTANTLY, they don't come with springs.  I'm sure you'd rather have pre-assembled shocks.

Also, DO NOT buy cheap Chinese crap, even IF it has a reservoir.  If you buy cheap shocks, you will get a cheap, crappy ride.  If you are set on Progressive BRAND shocks, call them and get the correct 12 series model for fitment for your bike.  You should also look into Hagons, IKONS, or if you want quality reservoir shocks WORKS or RACE TECH.
