What's painted vs. polished on a 350F motor?
« on: October 14, 2014, 09:54:25 AM »
So I'm painting my 350 motor and the valve cover and the breather cover above that look like total garbage. I can't figure out if they were originally painted or bare aluminum. These same parts on my 750 were polished aluminum. The 350 breather cover seems to be polished, but the valve cover I think might be painted. Any one know?

Thanks.

I'm unaware of any of the cast aluminum parts on the engine ever being polished from the factory. They were painted. There were some played metal parts, but haven't seen a factory polished part.

Good to know. My breather cover is so incredibly pitted but a useable one on eBay was only $13 delivered. I'll paint it.

You could toss your cover in a bead blaster and have someone shoot it with glass, fine grit at low pressure. Might help even out the surface. Follow with a wee bit of wet sanding 400-1000 grit in stages then paint it.
