1971 CB500 and convince my woman to ride with me project

Picked up this 1971 CB500 for $300 bucks including the title. The bike is not currently running but turns over. Trying to go for the cafe/rat rod look and only keep the things I really need on the bike. Therefore, I will have a parts for sale thread soon.

I really just want to cruise this bike around so I traded the cafe handlebars for stock handlebars. Also installed new grips, new clutch lever perch, and new right hand controls.

Way ahead of ya! The tank and side covers I'm gonna clean and clearcoat. The wheels are so far gone that I am going to wire brush the hell out of them and paint them rustoleum gloss black. The front wheel will be done today.

Today I finished the front wheel including; wire brushing long nights, painting it Rustoleum gloss black, installing All Balls bearings, and I cleaned up the axle parts. Still need to bolt the rotor down and hammer down the tabs. The rear wheel will be cleaned up next.

Haha yes! I even ordered and installed rear foot pegs! I don't know if you noticed but I hamered out and cut a seat pan for 2. I still have to foam and wrap it.

"She" will always like the Candy Color and the shiny stuff: bet on that. Black, matte, or faded bikes with rust don't invite her.
"She" also likes quiet bikes, especially since the pipes are right in her ears back there.

Took a break to work on the shop a little. The back wheel has been cleaned, painted, and new bearings installed. I will take pictures later. I need to order new brake shoes. What's a good site to get them?

It's possible, but not recommended. It does help the carb action and it is a safety feature.
