Help have a 72 cb500 with a 78 frame and exhaust
« on: September 28, 2014, 04:34:10 PM »
I've gone threw and rebuilt the carbs and have found numerous problems. The motor runs so much better but as being new to rebuild I have done as much research as I can . I think I need to set the needle jets to another setting due to the exhaust system being completely different ? Anyone who has any advice or trouble shooting would be greatly appreciated.

What exhaust is it? Stock 4:4 from the '78? Air induction system? Biggest differences really are the 78 carbs had a cable choke and less tuning options. It's difficult to say "how" they should be set as carb settings are also contingent to the carb body, not just the motor year.

I'd start with stock settings for the origin of the carbs, then test them with plug chops or best, on a dyno.

The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Well.. we need to know more about all your specs... a simple, well framed picture would tell most of the story.

No one is going to be able to "troubleshoot" any of your problems without knowing what they are.  Without the symptoms no one is going to be able to tell you what exactly is wrong.
