Seat induced sciatica
« on: October 03, 2014, 05:09:54 PM »
Not specifically from my Honda, but in general, what can be done about hamstring and butt pain from a motorcycle seat?

If you wear "whitey tighty" underwear the heavy leg edging can create an issue from pressure. Try some riding pants without that heavy edging or lose boxers. I have some for distance riding and they work great.

I don't think it's the underwear.  The seat edge digs into my hip, it may just be something I have to fix by moving the footpegs forward a bit to straighten my leg out.

I'll make an effort to stretch ahead of time.  It's something that I've been thinking about but when it comes time to ride I never do.  Poor excuse I know, but there it is.

I get that too, worse when I first started riding again. It helps me to get my foot foreward. I'm not a fan of highway pegs but have used them in the past. I also spend a lot of highway time on the passenger pegs.

There are guys I ride with who suffer from riding and pains in their arse and legs, they have a thing called an Air Hawk seat which you strap to the seat to reduce the pains one may get when riding.
They are used for many different applications

Along the same lines as Rocky's suggestion, I found this:

Can't vouch for it though, I may be trying this out in about a month for a 500 mile weekend.

The riding position these old Honda's put you in for me is really pretty comfortable. I like the up right seating with my feet back under me. My KO still has the original ducktail seat so the 44 year old foam is not the best and gets a  uncomfortable with any distance plus the non factory low rise bars don't help either. Now I put a new OEM seat on my K6 in 2009 and I like it and can put some miles on it and stay fairly comfortable.  My Harley Wide Glide as the forward controls that puts you legs and feet out in front. The is a nice relaxed position for a while but after some miles the base of my a$$ starts getting numb and no matter what I do I cant get comfortable. I just have to take a break and get off the bike for a little bit and let the feeling in my back side come back ;D

My 77 GL1000 Goldwing is in a league of its own, even with the original 37 year old seat still on it.
