81 cb650 safe to remove rear fender?
« on: September 27, 2014, 04:16:30 PM »
Hi everyone. Very nice forum you have here. I've been lurking around for a few days.

I've looked thru some of the faqs and a few pages of search hits, but couldn't find anything. I know the front fender stiffens the forks and helps the bike handle better. Does the rear have the same purpose?

I hate the stock stop/turn/plate unit on my bike. I'm looking to ditch the whole rear fender, for daily riding.

I have a 1up seat daily and a 2up/back rest I swap over when my wife wants to ride. I want to mount a stop/tail light to the 1up and mount turns where the fender mounts. That way I can still do the swap without much added work/time.

Thanks for any input.

I figured nobody saying don't do it means I'm good to go(also I looked at the rear fender and theres no metal in it, the front either). I got after it this afternoon. I still need to swap the front turns(from a sportster) and invert the not stock head light bracket to lower the fairing. Its getting there though.

1) that rear tire is DONE.
2: shortening the fender maybe, but one ride in rain and you'll wish you had something back there.
