750 rear shocks on a 500 frame
« on: October 01, 2006, 07:00:11 AM »
can shocks from a '78 750 be put on a '72 500K? this seems to be the only way to get new(er) suspension on my bike besides putting lots of $$ into Boge, or progressive products.

Yes,they will fit but the 750`s are a little longer than the 500`s. I`ve got a pair of `78 shocks and IMO they`re not any better than the ones on my `72 or `73.

They`re about the same length plus rebuildable so I would  go for it. Any thing is better than stock Showas.
I think the word "Showa" translated in  Japanese is "for show only" ;D

1" longer, or there abouts, with stiffer springs
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Interestingly, Showa monoshocks are very well regarded on modern bikes and are standard fitment on Hondas (like my VFR), Triumph, Ducati (?) and others.

Surprised me too.

EDIT: Reading the HRC site, Shows are used on the MotoGP Fireblade CBR1000RR.
