Absolutely.  My oldest has already expressed an interest in riding (honestly, he has for quite a while now) so I'm hoping to be able to have both of them take the class at the same time.  Thanks for the advice though, it's definitely great advice.

And Ron I forgot to congratulate you and Logan on good work there! Has been fun watching your posts and great pics. Reminds me of when my son and I did a 1980 CM400 together. Now enjoy it and look forward to your next find :) Careful...it might become addicting...

At least the "off" was at low speed!  ;)

The MSF Course is a great idea to establish good habits. It also pays for itself by discounting insurance premiums, and IF you pass you get to waive the DMV driving test.  There is NO downside to it.

I keep hoping he'll change his mind as well.  My 2 sons are very different people.  Austin is in college and is a very, very, very cautious driver.  Yet he has always wanted to ride a motorcycle.

Logan is a bit more of an aggressive driver.  Not a risk taker but very decisive and doesn't drive slow at all.  But he's also aware that my first cousin rode bikes all his life and, two weeks prior to his retirement, was killed on his bike riding to work one morning when one guy in a truck pulled out in front of him without double-checking.  And Logan is one of those kinds of young men whose very aware of his positives and negatives...and my gut tells me that he believes that he would be an aggressive rider and therefore dangerous.

However, I think that when he sees me riding that will increase his desire to ride.  And I've offered to buy and build a bike for each of them as well...and I think Austin will definitely take me up on that.  When he sees Austin riding as well, I have the feeling it will change his mind.

Does someone have the measurements of the tiny O ring that goes beneath the spring in the pilot jet? 

The #2 cylinder is now going smoothly but #1 wasn't going.  I took the carbs off the bike and took the bowls off.  Turns out the o-ring in #1 had broken and appears to be the problem. 

I can purchase another carb rebuild kit if necessary but I'm curious if I have that sized o-ring in my Nitrile O-ring kit that from Harbor Freight that I could use?

I don't have measurements but I have spare orings from my kit. If you want pm your address so I can mail them for you. Oring is tiny so I don't believe your HF kit will have that one.

Thank you; that's very kind.  The kit has some that are 3mm x 1mm and also 4mm x 1mm.  I think the 3mm one is the proper one but I just want to confirm that before I put one in.  If it turns out the 3mm isn't the proper size, then I'll definitely take you up on your offer.  Thank you!

Regarding Logan's riding. Maybe you should restore for him something smaller than 750. I started my adventure when I was 13 on ROMET OGAR -50cc, when I turned out 17 I bought myself MZ-ETZ 250 (my father still rides it in Poland). Last year when I bought my K8 I was a little scared to ride it - its big and heavy bike. You just need some time to get comfortable with it. Consider cb 350 (twin or four).

I think you might be right.  I've been texting with a lady tonight about a 550.  I'm #4 in line so it may be gone before I get a shot at it but I'm giving it a shot because I think he might be more interested in the somewhat smaller bike.

And they're a breeze compared to a 750 to rebuild! Smaller, lighter, less fussy cam issues, no oil tank, motor lifts in and out easily... Heck, you could do it in a weekend with your experience now! :)

I think those 5x3mm ones are the ones that go onto the aluminum tubes that connect the carburetors together.  I just measured the interior diameter of the pilot jet hole and it's less than 5mm.  I grabbed a 4.9mm one out of my kit and it's way too big to go into the hole.

But are you sure those are the o-rings that go into the pilot screw hole?  I think they're too big to go in there.

I'm sure those are the ones which goes on pilot screw followed by metal washer and spring. I have no idea why each of my kits has two of those orings. They are easy to loose - maybe that's why.

Can you do me a favor and also measure the interior and exterior diameter of the metal washers?  Just to make sure I have the correct size ones there as well?

Its easy to keep pilot screw upside down, put the spring on it then washer, then orings and install like a whole assembly to carburetor body.

A 500/550 would allow him to grow with the bike for a while and keep it.  A 350 would be a nice little scoot, but he might grow out of it as he gets bigger.
