According to the parts fiche:

http://www.servicehondapsn.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=2451919&category=Motorcycles&make=Honda&year=1978&fveh=131106

The brake rod is indeed oriented correctly, you just need to rotate the brake pedal pivot 180 degrees.

Thanks for checking on that.  We still need to pull it back out and insert the spring between the pivot and the frame.  We forgot that before.

This time, we will rotate the angle 180 degrees.  :)

The spring that goes onto the rear brake pedal.  Is that on the outside of the frame...between the frame and the pedal?  Or is it on the interior of the frame, near the swing arm?

Yeah, we had that explained to us before and took the swing arm off to correct it.  Oh well, so we remove it one more time.  No big deal because we're getting to be experts at taking the swingarm off and putting it back on.
 :P

Thank you very much for the photos.  I'm finding that, while I THOUGHT I had taken enough photos, I really didn't take enough photos in certain places where I needed to take more detailed photos.

I am not certain but you may be able to reposition the brake arm without removing swinging arm, by sliding inwards

Give me a shout if you need other pics, although mine was partially dismantled when I got it as a US import into UK

Did someone let you know, the bent wire shaped piece is the carb overflow pipes guide and fits to right side centre stand pivot clamp and the plate fits to inside of frame by brake arm

They did.  Wilbur told us in a previous post and we actually installed that last night.

We put the breather on beneath the battery box and figured out where all 3 of the tubes go last night.  Then we mounted the tube and tube clamp onto the frame before we put the swingarm back in.  Only afterward did I begin to question whether or not we really should have also done the spring.

No big deal.  We'll get it tonight once I get home from my dinner meeting.
Thanks again for the photos!

Have you fitted the centre stand yet?, as its much easier before the swinging arm goes on as you can attach the spring and plate, then slide in pivot with stand angled much higher than with swinging arm in situ and less spring tension, saves having to pack out spring with washers or trying to stretch to fit

Yes.  Center stand was a piece of cake to fit without the swing arm on.

However, it does make dealing with the swing arm more of an issue because you have to hold the center stand down a bit to keep it out of the way.  Once we get the final two pieces we need (o-ring for front wheel and small, metal brake cap for the rear wheel), we can get the wheels on the bike permanently and remove the bike from the lift where it is right now.  Those are scheduled to arrive Friday.

Thanks, Bill!  And you can most definitely expect a visit when it's carb party time! :)
We haven't actually stopped yet.  I just haven't been posting updates because we keep having to redo stuff.  LOL, we've taken that swing arm off 5 times now.  The next one will be 6.  Had planned to do it tonight but I literally just walked in the door from work and have to be in a meeting all day tomorrow so it likely won't happen until later tomorrow evening.

The good news is that the pile of parts on the shelf is shrinking and the pile of parts on the bike is growing.  So, little by little, we're getting there.

By the way, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for loaning us that master cylinder circlip tool.  Made getting the circlip out a piece of cake.  Got all the pieces out and cleaned the master cylinder.  Got 3 coats of black paint on it today and the final coat is drying right now.  Should be able to rebuild the MC tomorrow evening and get it on the bike.

OK...so when you're rebuilding the master cylinder, what in the heck is the secret to getting this little rubber boot onto the piston?

Ron,

I just did that last week (maybe 2).  Take some brake fluid on your pinky finger and wet the inside of that piece and then just kind of stretch it over the piston.  Make sure you get it on in the right direction.  If you don't get it seated properly over that little ridge, it won't fit into the Master Cylinder bore right.  Also, if I remember right (from a week or 2 ago) that piece goes on the easiest from the end opposite where it is sitting in the picture.

Keep Going! :)

Charlie,
You're a pretty handy guy to have around sometimes!  ;)

Got it back on.  Master cylinder rebuilt.

Also, we finally figured out how to mount the new coils onto the frame and get those to fit.

Found the missing piece for the rear wheel so we'll be putting that back onto the bike at some time tomorrow morning.  Can't mount the front tire and lock it down for good until we get the delivery from PartZilla because we need that big O-ring.  I guess I've been spoiled by Amazon.  Order something...they ship that day or the next and you have it 2 days later.  I ordered from PartZilla early Monday morning (like 5 am) and thought, "Well, they're in Albany, Georgia so I might have the stuff in a day or two."  Even opted to pay the extra few bucks to have them send it via FedEx ground over USPS.  I finally get an email late Tuesday night saying "Your order is expected to ship on Thursday."  Seriously?  To quote the guys on NFL Today...."COME ON, MAN!"

Partzilla was great the first time I placed an order from them. I've ordered from them several times since because often they are the only supplier I can find for certain parts. Every time I've ordered since, there has been a delay with products on back order, which they often don't tell you til a few days after your order. The worst case I've had from them was going two weeks of waiting without hearing from them, having to call them only to be told that "the part will be sent out tomorrow", then receiving an email another few days later finally telling me the part sent.

Sorry for the rant, Ron. Just want to warn you about this. I know of other guys who have had similar experiences with them.

No worries, Nate.  I had the same thought.
Either the parts are there or they're not.  If they're there...ship them out.  Waiting 3 days just to ship something is crazy slow in these days of internet shopping.  If they keep that up, they'll find it hard to keep people buying from them.

You got to have a little patience when dealing with 4o year old bits and pieces. Not many places stock everything for every model. You want overnight guaranteed delivery, gotta buy a 2013-2015 motorcycle and order from a dealer.

Just in time inventory is the way of things unless you're ordering new parts.

Amazing progress so far. I am just disappointed that the coils bracket looks like sh*t ;)

You meet the nicest people working on a Honda!  :)

Today, Logan and I got the chance to meet Mark (mark52) and his brother, Barry.  Mark had driven up from his home in Tallahassee to visit his brother for the weekend and to work some more on his 75 CB750, which is at Barry's house here in the suburbs of Atlanta.

Since they were going to be in the area, we offered to let them come over and see Stella and I get to go see Mark's 75 tomorrow as well.  We first met Mark on line as he is the one who so kindly sent us a sweet, pristine rear chrome fender for Stella.  He had purchased it for his bike and found out it didn't fit.  When he offered it, I tried to pay him for it but he refused.  So I at least got to buy him and his brother dinner tonight and we all 4 had a great time sitting there and talking.  As I said at the dinner table, one of the great things about this build is that Logan is getting to experience the genuine kindness and goodness of the other people on this board and learn life lessons from some of the people we have met.

While they were here, Mark helped us get the back wheel onto the bike since we were ready to do that part.

We did have an issue in that the rear axle and the bolt that go onto it don't seem to be wanting to mate easily.  I'm afraid of forcing it onto there too much for fear of cross-threading one or both.  Bill, do you have a tap and die set big enough to handle the rear axle and the corresponding nut that goes on it?
