Steve-o, can you do me a favor and take a photo of the rear turn signals and how/where they connect to the bike on the K7?

Sure, but I don't have the grab bar and not putting one on. This is nowhere near a stock restoration, more like a get it running and back on the road so I can sell it! Hope this helps...

Those are located and oriented properly. The base of the signal rests on the outside of the frame, the grab bar mounting bolt captures the signal bracket and threads into the fender through the hole in the end of the frame. The wires just route up under the seat to the harness connectors closer to the front of the fender. Ignore the extra outer bracket in the picture below, that is one of the mounting points for my rear luggage rack as well.

Thanks for confirming, Wilbur.  That is how is was when I bought it and wasnt positive the PO hadnt changed it. The grab bar was apparently taken off for that humongous two up seat that was oh so popular in the 80's [went straight in the trash]

Gotta get the carbs and wiring completed but it's getting very close. *fingers crossed*

I'm expecting a text when you're close to getting home with the truck full-o-bikes, Bill.  I'll come over and help you unload them and get them down to the new building.  That way I can see if there's a bike in there I need to stake my claim to for my next project.  ::)

Wilbur and Steve,
Thank you both.  That was how I figured it was supposed to go but the parts drawing wasn't completely clear.  I have the proper black mounting piece there but there also appears to be a rubber, inner piece that mine is missing.  I'll make a trip to Lowes & Home Depot to see if I can find some type of rubber mounting spacers that will fit that gap and provide some cushioning from vibration and rattle, taking the place of part #11 RUBBER, RR. 33607-388-670  in the parts diagram.

Piece number 11 works with the collared spacer part number 19 in order to isolate the turn signal assembly from vibration, yet still provides a rigid mount for the grab bar. You might consider trying to source the correct parts. Piece number 11 actually protrudes through the bracket and out the other side.

Yeah, I have part #19.  I need to locate the parts #11.
I may have to make another trip over to Bill's Camp Camouflage and see if he has any rear signal stems and buy them from him. I need to take him some stuff to send to edwardmorris anyway.

Anyone who has the tank stripes for a 77K or a 78K tank, could you please measure them?  I have a friend who owns a graphic business who is going to duplicate the stripe pattern for me, but using different color stripes, so they won't clash with the Candy Gold color we'll be using on our tank.

He either needs the length of the top, horizontal stripe and/or the thickness of the individual stripes.
Thanks in advance for anyone who can provide this.

Tank is primed and ready for paint...still waiting for confirmation that it has shipped from VMR Paints.  Ordered last Wednesday so I'm hoping it is going out today or tomorrow.  Carb rebuild kits are in; now we just have to finish up wiring and do the carbs.  Going to start on the carbs tomorrow night.  But we went ahead & test mounted the exhausts tonight.

Important note for those who are mounting 4-into-4's for the first time.  The ones on the left side of the bike...the kick stand fits between the 2 pipes.  While it will seem obvious once you realize that; it isn't immediately obvious when you first look at it.

Everything looks great!

Few things to keep in mind when getting to the carbs as I just went through this for the first time (although having Bill around should help 10x better)

If you have them torn down fully, be sure to reinstall the choke levers with the taller pins on #2 and #3.
Before putting it back together, adjust the choke linkage for both fully closed and open positions the same (hard to explain but you'll see).
Go through the attached file just to see all the points that need silicone grease/spray.
For lubing the slides, use a mineral based oil like the singer sewing machine oil (very little).

Starting to look like a proper motorcycle, keep up the great work!!!!  I have a feeling that there will not be another student with a project like Logan's.  I am trying to get up to my brothers this weekend to finish up my motor, maybe we can get together if time permits.

Absolutely, Mark.  You and Barry just let me know when.  Would love to have you guys come over and look at the bike and vice-versa.  Just shoot me a text or phone call.

We are planning to try & start the bike one day this week.  Tomorrow night is the night slotted to finish up the electricals.  IF the carbs are ready by that point (a big if, in my opinion), we'll try to start it then.  Otherwise, we will start it once the carbs are ready to go on the bike.

Have you spun engine on starter to get oil pressure up yet?

Best to do with plugs removed, until oil warning light goes out, but do in short bursts to avoid overheating starter motor.

If light does not go out, it sometimes requires the engine to be run, but if it does, gives peace of mind  :)

I ended up pressurising the oil tank on last one, even after priming oil pump.

We haven't done that but intend to do it tomorrow night.  In our case, we won't just be relying on the oil pressure light, we actually removed the oil galley plug on the right hand side and installed an oil pressure gauge that will stay on the bike.  I like the idea of having the gauge so that I'm never reliant on just a light that could or could not be faulty at times.  With the gauge, I should know if the pressure isn't running where it should be.

Martin, do you or Nate have the Honda stripes on your gas tank?  If so, can you measure the length of the top stripe for me?  I need to give my graphics guy an idea of the size of the stripes that he's going to make for me.

Ohhhhh....so very close.  Got the wiring all hooked up tonight and ready to go.  Now, just gotta get the carbs all finished up and back on the bike.

Got the notice from UPS that our paint has been shipped and should be here by Friday.  Unless something unexpected happens, going to try to start it up this weekend.  The weather is supposed to be beautiful Friday and Saturday, so Stella may get to make her first ride in a few years this weekend.  ;D

Deep in the 3rd level of carburetor hell arises a question:

In that photo, beneath the pilot screw is a spring.  Check, got that.  Beneath that are 2 things.  It LOOKS like the bottom ring is the smallest o-ring from the carb rebuild kit.  What's that thing above it?

Allow me to express my displeasure with this answer.  Namely because I just checked and NONE of our 4 carbs have this tiny washer.  So please try again...another answer please!  ;)

these, and the o-ring, are very easy to lose and very difficult to get out of the mixture screw hole.  The washer is supposed to sit on top of the o-ring, so if you got the o-ring out, they are probably lost...or the PO lost them and decided they must not be that important.  Usually what happens is, the mixture screw is removed, the washer and o-ring stick in there, and whoever never realizes they even exist and then carb cleans them into oblivion.  I have seen some carb kits that include them.
If it works good, it looks good...

The Cruizin Image kits for K8 include the washers, just in case you can source locally their dimensions are 3mm inside, 5 mm outside and 0.7mm thick
