Have you spun engine on starter to get oil pressure up yet?

Best to do with plugs removed, until oil warning light goes out, but do in short bursts to avoid overheating starter motor.

If light does not go out, it sometimes requires the engine to be run, but if it does, gives peace of mind  :)

I ended up pressurising the oil tank on last one, even after priming oil pump.

We haven't done that but intend to do it tomorrow night.  In our case, we won't just be relying on the oil pressure light, we actually removed the oil galley plug on the right hand side and installed an oil pressure gauge that will stay on the bike.  I like the idea of having the gauge so that I'm never reliant on just a light that could or could not be faulty at times.  With the gauge, I should know if the pressure isn't running where it should be.

Martin, do you or Nate have the Honda stripes on your gas tank?  If so, can you measure the length of the top stripe for me?  I need to give my graphics guy an idea of the size of the stripes that he's going to make for me.

Sorry I didnt measure decals before stripping but have a few detailed photos if that helps?

Thank you.  I have some detailed photos but I'm just hoping to get an actual measurement.  I appreciate the offer though.

Ohhhhh....so very close.  Got the wiring all hooked up tonight and ready to go.  Now, just gotta get the carbs all finished up and back on the bike.

Got the notice from UPS that our paint has been shipped and should be here by Friday.  Unless something unexpected happens, going to try to start it up this weekend.  The weather is supposed to be beautiful Friday and Saturday, so Stella may get to make her first ride in a few years this weekend.  ;D

Deep in the 3rd level of carburetor hell arises a question:

In that photo, beneath the pilot screw is a spring.  Check, got that.  Beneath that are 2 things.  It LOOKS like the bottom ring is the smallest o-ring from the carb rebuild kit.  What's that thing above it?

Allow me to express my displeasure with this answer.  Namely because I just checked and NONE of our 4 carbs have this tiny washer.  So please try again...another answer please!  ;)

these, and the o-ring, are very easy to lose and very difficult to get out of the mixture screw hole.  The washer is supposed to sit on top of the o-ring, so if you got the o-ring out, they are probably lost...or the PO lost them and decided they must not be that important.  Usually what happens is, the mixture screw is removed, the washer and o-ring stick in there, and whoever never realizes they even exist and then carb cleans them into oblivion.  I have seen some carb kits that include them.
If it works good, it looks good...

The Cruizin Image kits for K8 include the washers, just in case you can source locally their dimensions are 3mm inside, 5 mm outside and 0.7mm thick

Thank you for providing the dimensions; that's very helpful.  I'm going to try & source them locally.  Since the senior project presentations start in 3 weeks, we're trying desperately to get this thing cranked.  Also, I would really hate to have to order another $100 or so more of carb rebuild kits just for 4 tiny washers that probably cost 15 cents each.

Bill,
Thank you.
Logan and I will probably need to come over tomorrow night anyway.  Need a new horn and I forgot to look to see if you had a gas tank lock the other night.  If I can't find the little washers, we'll need those as well.

Thanks, guys.  It's not flawless but I think he did well.

There's some orange peel effect in the paint but we weighed the option of trying to wet sand it out before clear coating it and decided not to risk it since we're just going for a 6-foot bike anyway (looks good at 6 feet!  :)).

Now, we just have to finish trying to get the carbs back onto the rack tonight and then chase down some electrical issues.

Looks like you did a great job with the paint!!! Sounds like it is going to be a busy time in Atlanta. Trey is showing up at Bill's to kick off the latest version of Calender Girl and I have no doubts you and Logan are going to hear your project sing this week also. Damn I should have come up this weekend instead of last. Good luck finishing it up, and thanks for the help on Saturday.

don't wet sand the color coat, wet sand the clear coat. You can't avoid orange peel in color coats due to the shrinkage of the paint material. Apply an extra 1-2 coats of thin clear that you use as a sacrificial layer to wet sand off. Start with 1200 grit, gently. Work up to 2000, then to 2500. Then buff with a quality compound (I like Mothers Ultimate Compound for DIY work). You'll be astonished at how great it turns out (certainly worthy of all the effort invested).

Pro painters know its all about the prep, then the finishing of the paint to get pro-show results. Application is 25% of the equation. Light coats built up, Grasshopper-
