If you look carefully using a magnifier if necessary you may see any deformation of threads.

You can buy thread files to clean up threads on the axle part and can use a tap with same thread pitch to clean up the nut, by scraping round.  You can also try starting nut other way round to clean up.

You are right to be cautious as stripped threads are a pain,

Today, I got to see two BEAUTIFUL bikes.  The Planet Blue Metallic 750 is Mark52's 1975 CB750K and the Goldwing is his brother Barry's 1981 Goldwing.

The Goldwing is an example of a meticulously cared for bike that has always been garage kept.  And the 750 is an example of a restoration by someone with an incredible attention to detail.

Super glad that I got to meet these two guys.  Already looking forward to getting to ride together sometime soon.

81 Goldwing

75 CB750K

Mark has his case internals all ready to button up, so it won't be long before he has his engine ready to go back into the 750 and ready to ride!

Ron,

I'm having a serious case of Goldwing envy.
Not to mention 750 envy.  :)))
Wish I lived near you and the rest of these guys!!!!!

Charlie,
Ha!  No kidding.  I tried my best two different times today to convince Mark that his 750 was hideous and that people would make fun of him riding down the road on such an ugly bike.  And being the swell guy that I am, I offered to buy it from him right then and there.  Still can't understand why he wouldn't take me up on it!  ::)

There's plenty of real estate down here in Atlanta!  Come on down, we'd love to have you!  We could get our own vintage Honda club going!  8)

I can handle the 60's!
It was almost 40 here (in NJ) today and finally had some melting of the White Crap.
Getting so tired of dealing with that White stuff you can't possibly believe it.  :))))

Yeah but I was trying to keep from bugging you.  I know you've been hard at work trying to get CG ready for the racing season.  I'm thinking I might just take you up on that at some point today though.

I told Mark yesterday to tell you that "Ron said you love for people to come over around 5:30 or 6:00 in the morning on Saturdays.  You want me to come over then?".   ;)

OK, I understand the wink to a blind horse one but the eggs and apple pie comment is something I've never heard.
If that's another way of saying, "Ron is really stupid", then I'm on board with that!  If it's saying something else, then that one just went way over my head!

Wait! You've spent all this time with Bill and he's never exposed you to Apple Pie! Oh, spoiler alert! Just threw Bill under the bus again for keeping secrets from you...  ::)

Apple Pie is moonshine. Thought that was how you were getting so much assistance from him by taking him Mason jars full of mecahnic's lube. A few swallows of it, and all the knowledge comes running out-

So, eggs (early morning visit) and Apple Pie (lube) are a tough combo even for a true country boy. Maybe Apple Pie syrup for his flapjacks since you'll be there for breakfast  :)

Well, to fess up...we DID try some of his moonshine.  Not the stuff that was made by the guy on TV but the REAL stuff in the Mason jar.

I told Bill that I suspect he takes it with him on racing trips because it likely burns better than racing fuel does!  Talk about a kick like a mule!  But he never explained to me that it was called Apple Pie...hence my bewilderment.

No, I think Bill has been willing to give all of this help because he took one look at Logan and figured out that he was going to need all the help Bill could give him since Logan's dad can be an idiot sometimes and do stupid stuff.  :)

You do know that I expect to get to see the inside of it next time already built out and ready for racing! :) Enjoy your new trailer.  It's a nice one!  Also, let me know if you want some help moving the stuff out of the old one and into the new one.  I'll be glad to come over and help with that.

Thanks for the help today.

Well then, it's a good thing you stepped in to guide Logan down the straight and narrow!  :D I'd hate to see where Logan would be in life now without your dilligent and quality influence on him.

Exactly.  Can't trust that mailman anyway!  ;)

Well, after a trip to Bill's Hondaland House of Fun, I came back and helped Logan get the rear wheel on.  Using the O-ring we got from mark52, we also got the front wheel back together this morning and got it on the bike as well.
So that means we were able to take it off the bike lift today and put it up on the center stand.

What's it called when you can do that?  Hmmm...oh yeah...a roller!!!!  Of course, I couldn't resist sitting the seat up on the bike and then that meant I had to also put the tank up there.

Tomorrow we put on the front and rear fenders and begin the process of hooking up electricals.  Then, most of this week will be dedicated to Fun With Carburetors 101 as well as we will begin stripping down the paint on the tank and getting any necessary bodywork done so that it can be primed.  Parts from partzilla just arrived about 2 hours ago so we can also finish up the front brakes tomorrow as well!

If things continue to progress the way they are moving, we are hoping to start her up sometime at the end of this week or next weekend.

Ron - I rcommend Aircraft Stripper to peel that paint to bare metal. Works a treat, obvious it's working, and decently usable without a full chem suit. Gloves, eye protection of course, but gently paint it on with a scrap brush, let stand, and paint bubbles away.

Neutralize afterwords and use a plastic spatula for additional scraping during removal.

By the way, sure looks like a motorcycle!  :)

Thanks, Nate.  Really looking forward to getting it running again.  It was 56 degrees today and sunny.  Really had me wanting to have the bike out riding!
