Oil burning, will it clear up? 550K0 w/history
« on: October 05, 2014, 10:16:53 PM »
Recently rebuilt carbs due to overflow problems. satisfied fixed.
Bike has not run since 2007, it had an ebay piston kit w/1 piece oil rings installed that year.
Very few miles on engine since kit was installed. #3 cylinder keeps
oil fouling (not gas fouling) plug. The others remain dry. #3 had a history of spitting oil/gas out of muffler, (drippage) suspect a lot of that was carb related. I keep changing plugs
on #3, and today, it quit oil fouling #3. Still smokes out of that pipe, but plug is staying dry now, and all 4 cylinders fire.Seems like I've heard of guys with similar symptoms say it might clear up on its own? Probably total wishful thinking, and I know better. But I'll ask just because....
does any of this sound familiar to anyone? What were your results or solutions? The piston kit was a 500cc "bore up" kit sold on ebay, and is in my 550,equivelant to 550 2nd oversize,
and was I THINK, a Henry Abe (?)..

PS     Ignition checks good/plug caps ok
Running good since shut off after test ride earlier today. Nice restarts too.

Umm...what about valve seals? Did you change those when rebuilding? They get hard after {x} years, and tend to crack.

Seals iirc were'nt terribly hardened, but it is a possibility..

Cracked oil ring has me worried tho. That's what I thought it'd be.
Never seen a motor act like this, if they were wet fouling plugs with oil, they did it consistently.
