ONLY for the guys who have fitted CX500 tanks to their CB750's
« on: October 06, 2014, 09:32:04 AM »
Hey dudes.

I've got a CX500 tank I'm planning to use on my CB750 build. I've cut off the rear mount. I know that I need to skinny up the front mounts which I will do, but I haven't come up with what I think is a really great mounting system for the rear

I'm looking for some guys that have done this and can maybe take some pictures for me so I can get an idea for rear mounts.

Thanks!
Rav

Are you talking the delux model tank? Yes nice looking tank for a cafe. Instead of modding up the tank I just bought a CX500 Delux :)

Is it possible to braze on the rear mount from a CB750K tank onto the CX500 tank? That might be your easiest way to make sure it mounts up. And what are you doing about the seat? Standard CB750K or a custom kind of seat? A custom seat will make sure it fits with the tank, n ot so sure about a stock seat. Good luck and post up some pics as you go along.

heck I don't know. The one with the knee dents in it from the factory..

I'm doing a custom seat for it.

I have the same one. I did notice the frame on my cx is wider than the cb so you will have to do something about that but seems like an easy fix. The rear mount is quite different you will have to braze the cb mount onto the cx tank. You might measure the length between the front and rear mounts on both. the cx tank is quite long but it might be close to the 750 tank. Then after the tank is mounted take your measurements for the seat. Another alternative is the CB500T tank I always thought would look nice on a cafe. Might be easier to mount.

500T tank is shorter but easy to fit with rubber on the frame-rails to give clearance for the petcock.

Take a look at how the racing-tanks mount with a wide 'hook' at the rear and a rubber strap. That should give you some ideas on you CX tank.

I think I've come up with an idea. Obviously I've got to widen the front (or make the mounts come in further), but that's the easy part.

The back, I came up with a Squarish/rectangular piece that fits just insde the metal hooks that used to hold the rubber in place. I figure I can bolt that right to the frame, then I will have two bolts welded to where the CX mount used to be that will fit into rubber and then down into holes on the rectangular mount. I can then hold it down with wingnuts for easy removal/install.

I'll grab pics if anyone is curious..
