anti hooning law?
« on: October 06, 2014, 11:22:27 PM »
An internet aquaintance is losing his 69 firebird because he did a farewell burnout after a friends funeral. The cops took his holden too but he gets it back after impound. The firebird is apparently going to be crushed. W0W.
He's a big biker looking guy with a Harley too so that may be going against him with the local popo.
The way I read the law a modified car can be taken and destroyed, especially if dangerous driving is exhibited. Must be more than a first offense.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

That's a shame. Punishment doesn't Quite fit the crime. He may have a history with the law tho. Then again, they may be trying to make an example of him because the powers that be just dislike hot vehicles. I saw in a Mustang publication quite a few years ago that one particular community was cracking down on illegal street racing. The communities had had enough. New york iirc. Penalties could go as far as confiscation of a vehicle, and some of the cars were even used as police vehicles after they were taken from their owners. Street racing is a bad idea, tantalizing as it is, and for obvious reasons, though that's not quite the case here.
I can't imagine how it would be having a vehicle confiscated and then crushed :(  All over a burnout. It sucks to have to learn the hard way...jmo

I'm a Pontiac enthusiast and it makes me sick that  they're going to crush a 69 firebird over a burnout.

a stiff fine would be in order, but crushing someones car is a crime. It's not
like anyone got hurt. You can't fight city hall as they say.
I hear ya Dave. It sucks.

They have the Hoon law in Australia and if your a repeat offender you get your car crushed.
First offence the car is impounded for 3 months and to top that off they make you pay a storage fee for this also.

We're starting to see stiffer driving penalties for many different offences in Canada too. Law enforcement, insurance companies and politicians are starting to get really pissy about it and drivers are paying big time plus vehicles siezures are becoming common too. Especially the street racing big ticket Ferrari's and Lambro's driven by rich Asian students.

We've figured out that in most large university towns they aren't students, they're race car drivers.
