Rear wheel cracked brake lining
« on: October 07, 2014, 07:44:22 AM »
The rear brake oscillates when applied under load which has led to my CB500 failing its UK road test. On inspection there is a high point on the brake drum which has been caused by a crack in the lining. I guess my question is do I try and get the drum re-lined or try and pick up a replacement on Ebay?

Cheers
Richard

most used ones are also cracked so relining one would be best way. Are you on sohc.co.uk as there has been some threads about this subject and info on a man who can do it for you.

yes you can put the hub in a lathe..and turn the old drum aut,,and find a drun from a small car/auto trailer..turn it dovn to fit the hub..it must be heatet up and the kold drum put in as a schrenk fit..and some safty threads drilled in to fit som safty schrevs 3 or 4 to ekstra safe

i bayed a reserve hveel in germen e bay,,but it have almost same defekt...so be ekstra care baying used stuff...the old 550 hub fitts..but later 550 have a different brake plate..so go for a 500 for safty

my plan b..are to frit a small disc brake..and build a adapter to press in the old hub..but it are hard to find a small nice disc...750 f disc are as big as hell

Thanks guys for the responses. My fear was that a used wheel may not be any better. Can you give me a lead on thread about re-lining?

Thanks
Richard

Hey Richard.  There is a UK SOHC4 site.  sister site.  Like this, it may have a parts for sale section.
Members in your area might do you a solid and hook you up with a good, useable hub.
