Bearing retainers
« on: October 14, 2014, 07:45:10 PM »
I just finished splitting the cases on my 78 K. Here's where the possible problem starts. The p o evidently decided to split the cases and rebuild the motor. Thankfully I didn't trust his rebuild skills. He used silicon to seal the motor.  As best I can tell he never started the motor after he put it back together because the crank and rod bearings are still in good shape and plastigage out. My question is should there be split retainers in the upper and lower case halves that locate the bearings on the countershaft sprocket? I feel like the p o has left some parts out.  If this has been answered before can someone point me in the right direction in the forums.
Thanks
Scott

If there are grooves in the case to accept retaining rings - the rings should be there. I think that only the main shaft bearings have retainer rings.
