Ignition switch options
« on: October 12, 2014, 01:32:33 PM »
My CB550 ignition switch is busted, the plastic case cracked and now the two halves barely stay connected to each other.  The effect this has is that when jostled (such as a bump) the ignition will cut out.  Currently it's held together with a couple of zip-ties.  Obviously that's not a good long-term solution so I'm wondering if there are other options
1)  A new switch
2)  A way to hold the two halves together more permanently.  I was thinking about gluing it, but didn't know what kind of plastic glue would work.  Lastly, would it even be a good idea to permanently fix them together.

My preference would be to get a new module, but that would necessitate getting a new key to go with it - would a new module include the key (I'm assuming it would).

Are there other options, if I don't care about using a key at all.  I suppose I can replace the whole shebang with a toggle switch and find some other way to secure the bike - such as a fork or wheel lock.

Oh, that's good to know.  Cheaper than I thought.

Edit:  Just bought it (from Amazon, 5 bucks cheaper).

Good to know, it comes from  Powersport Superstore, just down the road from me.

Another repair option is from 4into1.com for $7.95 and keep your original key.

EMGO switches will break and leave you stranded - it's happened to me.

Couple it with this from Hondaman if you go that route.
