Scrambled mind
« on: October 12, 2014, 06:21:23 PM »
So I've had the idea of scrambler pipes on my 1979 CB650. Obviously this bike never came close to something like that and I'm pretty sure that's not an aftermarket your going to find on ebay. I'm thinking custom here. Has anybody ever seen or heard of a CB650 with a scrambler set up? I think it would look sharp and would be a nice touch to my build. Just spit balling here. Input is always welcome.

I have a 1980 CM400T that I was thinking about making into a Scrambler. That model isn't too popular so what heck! Right now i'm restoring a 1980 CB650C.
                      Good Luck with the build.

The machine that Krusty put up is a nice version of an on/off road set up for a 4... downswept exhaust is sensible when you consider that at some point that a heavy engine with upswept hot pipes could be laying across your leg.
I had this hankering for a little more serious  550 dirt conversion once
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=124957.msg1419721#msg1419721
it could have worked, I suppose...but after the mock up, it was obviously going to be a disaster looking for a place to happen.
I guess what I'm saying is... that sometimes when we concentrate on making a questionable/unusual  modification  idea a reality, we overlook the idea that someone else has thought the same idea, implemented it, and found it to be either too dangerous, a big PITA, or an out and out failure.
Quite possibly the reason that the CL pipes were never stock on an inline 4, but you can't deny credit to to a man with a vision and the will to see it through.
Matt made that cl 550 four look badass didn't he?
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.
550 Snowbike -Somebody had to do it.

Exactly and if everyone took the safe, well thought out route, we wouldnt have hot rods, custom motorcycles etc, etc.

So to the op, doing it just for the fact that it wont be simple or feasible, should be all the more reason to try it, and if u do try, we want pics............
