I can't stop buying these old hondas. here is the latest find. 1969 Honda CL350. I bought it at the Barber Vintage Fest. considering I rode up on my cb750, I didn't have any plans to purchase a bike but the deal was too sweet to pass up. It runs fantastic actually and has a few new items on it like speedo cable, petcock, plug boots, wires, and plugs. It had no front brake cable but I found one at the swap meet for cheap. it still needs indicators but it starts up and runs very nicely with no smoke and no leaking. the exhaust is all in one piece with no rust or holes, and no rattling. I was thankful to find someone there from savannah willing to haul it back for me. Just picked it up today and brought it home. Can't wait to get started on this.
the plan is to build this for my buddy's sister for her first bike. between he and I, she has gotten a bit of a vintage bike bug, and this seems like a fantastic first bike. Great for the city of Atlanta. I don't think we are going to do all new frame paint and engine paint etc, because she is bound to drop it as her first bike. we may even hold onto the scrambler pipes and fit cb pipes on it. not sure yet. since it is running like a champ it should be a simple strip down and replace wheel bearings, neck bearings, brake components, tires, maybe spokes too. then freshen all bullet connectors and some new electronics to make it fairly faultless. it is another surprise and the deadline is christmas!
I know I said I wasn't going to do any more surprise builds but this is not a restoration and it's already running, so it should be a bit easier. I have to try and pry information like style, color etc without giving any suspicion. I bought this on friday and all day friday, saturday, and sunday morning I rode the hell out of it around Barber. did some slow races fantastically well, and even ran it around the cross country trails course at 11pm with some mates. this thing is a SMILE machine. I think I am going to have to try and find another 350 for me, maybe even an SL350
stay tuned.
