1971 CB 175 K6 value - Advice appreciated
« on: October 13, 2014, 05:30:27 PM »
Hello All,

I have a 1971 Honda 175 K6 w/ 6K miles in good condition. Original everything (including manual and tools); all serial numbers matching. A gentleman had knocked over the bike with his vehicle while it was parked (on center stand) resulting in scratched original paint on the tank, 2 dents on the tank, broken right side blinkers, bent right side tail light and some of the tail end on the attaching frame and dented right muffler. The damages were all cosmetic as I can tell and the bike still runs. The gentleman was very kind to offer "fixing" what was broken. However, I am bummed out because it took me considerable effort to find the bike in this condition. I really wish this did not happen at all as the loss to the bike is not monetary, but really aesthetic value and a part of history IMHO. What would be a sound and fair resolution to this dilemma? All ideas are appreciated.

Well, the fair solution is that your bike is put back in the nice original condition it was before the idiot knocked it over. Some of the broken stuff is easily replaced. The muffler not so much and finding a replacement tank in the original color and like new condition is going to be a challenge.

I would say you need to hit the interwebs and ID and price everything you need to get the bike back to condition it started. All in all I would bet that you are looking at several hundred dollars. How 'kindly' wil the purp be to paying that?

Perhaps you should get his insurance details as backup before negotiating any further.

Thanks for the feedback Bankeddanny. That's also what my mechanic recommended. I guess after the damage is done, there is really nothing I can do but to restore it with non-original parts. The insurance is also a good idea. Well in actuality, it is the proper ways to go about these situations. Sound advice indeed. Thanks again.
