Help! ID my carbs
« on: June 20, 2006, 05:02:15 AM »
I bought a spare set of carbs for my CB175, and successfully scavanged some of the guts to rebuild my original set.  Then I actually looked at the 2 different sets, and noticed they wern't the same??  I've attached a pic of them side-by-side.  On the left is the original carb, and on the right is my spare.  Then there's a close-up of each.

The throat looks bigger, the internal ports are laid out differently and I'd swear there's a jet sticking out the side of it.  They obviously aren't the same beast.  Any clues as to what the heck I have?

Thanks.

I've run through the parts fiche for almost every available year and model 175, and nothing looks like this beast.  I randomly checked some other models like 350's and no luck.  What the heck is this thing?  If I recall, the guy I got it from used to race - is this some sort of race-set-up carb?  And what's that extra port [on the upper body with the jet-looking thing] and additional screw doing where no other carb has it?  The mystery grows...

Take a look at the CB200,  carbs more common and look the same as 175. hey could even be CB72?
I think the jet is in a blind hole, it used to hold the brace. It also looks like a vacuum take off on the top right?

I scanned several years of the CB200 and nothing matches.  I'll check if it's a blind hole tonight, but what would the vacuum be for?  The guts of this thing strongly resemble that of my 175 carb, read that I can swap floats, etc.  Not sure if the slider is the same diameter, etc. though.  Could that be a spare jet holder just in case you want to change on the fly?  I'm stumped...I can't find any carb with the jet-thing or the extra screw on the body...urgh.

The thing that looks like a jet, is a jet.  And it's in an active hole.  There's a tiny port on the top of the venturi inlet, just before the choke flapper that I assume leads back to the mystery jet #1.  And behind the mystery screw to the right of the mystery jet lies yet another mystery jet. Mystery jet #2.  But this time it's buried behind the screw - which is gasketed by the way.  I believe they are connected, but hard to tell.  Boy, if I wasn't confused before, I sure am now.

Uh-oh, now I've done it.  I have a cross-thread in the tech section out of desperation --> http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=10968.0

And yes, there's a "20" stamped on the flange, and a "20" stamped on the slider cover and a "20" printed on the choke flapper.

From the position of the 'jets' they look like the holes will be blocked off at full throttle? PW20 carb? maybe from CB125 single cyl or 185??? Thee side hole should link to float chamber the rear hole? I would say its been modified at home and is not a factory spec mod.

I realise this is an old thread, but thought an answer might be nice.

I believe the carb is off a CA95, possibly a CB92. Looks to be a keihin PW20Ha3. The power jet comes into play above around 6000rpm.
