Boot Camp
« on: October 03, 2006, 08:06:29 AM »
Hey Guys,

I just found out that I was selected to go to Parris Island in S.C. as part of an educator program.  I'll be at Boot Camp for 4 days to participate in actual Marine Boot Camp.  I will be gone from Oct. 31 until Nov. 3rd.

Are there any U.S. Marine forum members who went through Parris Island?

Sadly, I let the opportunity pass.

My dad went through there.  He would have two words for you -

I would actually like to go through boot camp if I didn't have to actually go to war... It's not that I don't support all of the armed forces, I just don't think I want the lifestyle. Boot camp would be an excellent chance to get into really good shape and maybe add a little maturity to my 22 years. I think I'd do good in the Forces, but would much rather spend my time raising a family and helping my parents out on their farm.

Seems like a great idea, whatever country you're in. It's a pity nobody will initiate it. It might give the youth of today a bit of back bone.

Send your youth's to me. The logging woods will give em some backbone. :)

It's pretty sad when it's thought that boot camp in some way gives back bone.
I've been through OCS Navy and yes we had Marine Drill Seargents,
but don't think it did a damn thing for me as far as back bone.
I grew up working since I was 10 and already had plenty of backbone.
Also, life has a way of giving one some backbone if one is inclined to have
a backbone, if not Military Boot Camp nor nothing else will give it.

I prefer something that allows one "individuality" which was the origin of
backbone in this country.

Boot Camp, been there, done that. Did 4yrs active and, about what it does for you, "You get out of it what you put into it." If You Do Just Enough To Get By, Then That's All You'll Do (Just Get By)! I put nearly 30yrs into the military (Active and Reserves). Never was in combat. Came close a couple of times in Korea. But, to each his own.  :) ;)
