Hey guys! This is bike is not a Honda nor an SOHC, but I'm sure someone can still point me in the right direction.
Here is the bike:
1980 KZ550 DOHC
Here are the details:
Compression reads within clearances.
Rings and valve shims have been replaced and are within clearances.
Valves have been lapped.
Bike has pod filters. Yes I understand the pain of pods. You don't have to remind me.
Bike has new points and condensers.
New Dyna high-output coils.
Silicon wires.
The problem:
I set the points gap and then setup my timing light. It's a fancy light with digital advance. The sensor shows you how to attach it to the plug wire. A certain side has to point in the direction of the plug, it reads. But the light only flashes when I put the sensor on the wire the wrong way. Weird. However, I set the 1/4 timing like that, and then moved on to the the 2/3. I can't remember which way we put the sensor on the wire, but we could only get the light to flash sporadically. Like it is miss firing. Pulled the plug out, put it against the engine and got an orange spark. I was under the impression I want a fat blue spark. Sure enough, 4 plug gives a blue spark. What gives?
