Motorcycle Covers
« on: October 11, 2014, 06:09:50 PM »
I had one before and it lasted several months before the elements got to it and got brittle and started tearing on me. I got it from Target and for some reason it seemed like they only carried a size Large which was pretty big on my 750. Anyone have a one they've had a pretty good experience with? I don't expect them to last forever or anything but I'd like to find a good one without spending a huge chunk on it.

I've had good luck with Formosa. You can find them on Amazon for ~$35. They last about a year and then you need to replace.

I had a Nelson Riggs for like 3x that amount. Still needed to be replaced after a year. A bike barn or Cycle shell is worth the investment if you don't have a shed or garage.

I have used the Durashield cotton lined cover for 2 years with no fading, or deterioration.
The cheap $15-20 covers have never lasted more than a few months.

i've got one where only the top is made from plastic, the rest is heavy cotton canvas. this lasts forever but also lets moisture escape so you get less corrosion.
the brand is verheul. don't know if you can get it over there, though.

I use a cheap $20 or less cover from Walmart. Had it 2 years now and no issues. Mine is stored inside though and the cover is primarily to keep dust off it. I've used it outside in the rain now and again, if it's a nice day but chance of rain I bring it with me to work. For outside storage I'd be inclined to build a shed or get one of those smaller heavy canvas tents. A cover used all the time outside will keep moisture in, you'd have to take it off and hang it to dry after every rain I'd imagine.

I had a Nelson-Riggs that only lasted two winters. Faded out and started ripping. My current Bilt seems to be lasting a lot longer. two winters and still looks good.

I use heavy duty fabric tarp from farmer's store since 2011. It is holding great, for wind I have to bungee it down since it is only rectangular flat piece. But snow or rain, it holds.

Motorcycle Superstore has some good deals on covers. I picked up a Moto Centric Centrek cover and the Medium fit is great. The only thing that's happened to it over the last year is that it's a little sun faded.

May sound cheesy, but I use the barbeque grill cover that came with my Sears gas grill.  It has so far lasted about 4 years and appears to be holding up just fine.

I asked about covers a couple of weeks ago but got no takers.  Looking for the size of Dowco that would work.
