So as of last Friday in my state of NC marriage is not considered to be between a man and woman only anymore. Now a man and a man or a woman and a woman can get married and its all legal and all good and everything is fine and the two can live happily ever after. All because some judge ruled it to be unconstitutional to not allow them to marry just like a man and woman wed. Their is nothing right about this >:( it's wrong, wrong, wrong and its not how it's meant to be. I could say alot more but I would probably get kicked off and banned from this site.

Times are changing old timer. Better get used to it. Head to your local church, I am sure you can find some more people that want to tell everyone else how they should live.

What is the big deal. The want to be equal, so be it. When they decide to split up they have to go to Court, divide assets and the rest of the fun people seeking a Divorce have.

When my Wife and I were Married 35 years ago, there were actually two things going on at the same time. There was a Religious ceremony and a civil ceremony. That is why you need a license and the words by the powers vested in me. They are getting the Civil ceremony, which is actually establishing financial obligations.

I would rather they come out of the Closet than ruin some Woman's life by getting Married to her, having kids and then she finds out the truth. Seen it happen and it is ugly.

Our governor bannned same sex benefits in our national guard, so they have the inconvienience of going to a federal facility located in the state.

My problem is that a same sex couple is in control of my inheritance. Who do you think is getting my inheritance- me or "my girl Bill?"

Their is nothing right about this

and this from a 50 something guy obsessed with an underage girl from an old TV show. ::)

With "traditional marriage" divorce rates hovering at 50% it might just save the institution. ;D  I personally know three same sex couples who have married in the last year.  Hasn't harmed my marriage the slightest bit.

Change happens...you can jump aboard and accept it, stand aside and ignore it, or try to stop it and get run over.

Yeah well, the world has changed and that's just how it is.
Personally, I don't agree but everyone's entitled to their own choices and opinions as long as you don't step over the the line and be a disruption or a threat to our society.

There's a sh1tload of other things happening on this earth at the moment that isnt right and so maybe the gay marriage thing  is a positive in comparison by looking at the big picture with the innocent suffering.

Gay marriage pales into insignificance as far as other present world issues are concerned IMO.

Their is nothing right about this

With "traditional marriage" divorce rates hovering at 50% it might just save the institution.

Change happens...you can jump aboard and accept it, stand aside and ignore it, or try to stop it and get run over.
You make valid points, srust. And like you and others, I personally don't care. I don't support it personally, but am quite indifferent to it being legalized as it won't change my marriage or my beliefs.

However, given that well over 60% of the country believe the country is "heading in the wrong direction" and this constitutes the social attitude, one could easily argue that a "change" in marriage laws is not well-received or productive. Nor, will it likely reverse the course of a higher divorce rate.

"Change" does not imply or insure progress. That's a misnomer and a stretch. I give you 4 quarters for a paper dollar. Where's the "improvement"?

Mick7504 makes a great point and I side with him. But to believe that "change" must be accepted is not a healthy attitude unless the "change" actually improves a bad situation.

It would be far smoother in my opinion for "traditionalists" to accept this new legal provision if the Supreme Court would actually render a legal verdict. That is their job afterall. In so doing, the Congress could then pass and ratify a constitutional amendment and the issue be done. Until then, polarized views will prevent our society for welcoming or tolerating any changes to a centuries old tradition that has more to do with theological meanings than with financial ones.

To the OP's point though, if individual states vote for provisions to exclude or allow certain social or legislative action, then those provisions should be honored and respected by higher courts. Afterall, if it is the will of the people within a state, then it should be respected. Just as you cite it is "the will of the people" for marriage to redefined to allow heterosexual or homosexual marriages. And I respect that and am completely okay with it.

My paltry opinion-

Call me old timer like one of the members here did or call me this or that and times are changing I agree not for the better though. But when I see a man get down on his knee's and propose marriage to another man and then take his hand and slip a ring on his finger and get up give him a big kiss on the mouth, besides making my stomach a little queasy I've got to say hey something is not quite right about this. But that's just how I am.

I agree with you mate.
Acceptance is a bloody hard thing sometimes but that is how it is.
As mentioned previously, everyone has a choice entitlement on a personal level.
That's just how I look at it and I suppose that whether one agrees or disagrees with others choices or opinions, it boils down to respecting their decisions.
If I was you

I agree as well mate, i definitely do not like seeing guys kiss, but theres also lots of other things in the world i don't like and a lot of people do,  that diversity is what makes us different form every other living thing, its our right to oppose something we don't believe in but that doesn't necessarily make it wrong or something that shouldn't happen, it just means we don't have to like it. Gay marriage is not going to make one iota of difference to my life....

My .02, Until all the polarization thats occuring today goes away, this, and other issues (which we all know what they are) are gonna be around for a long time.
How society got to where we are now is very complex, and our beliefs are interfering too much in the way we interpret our own laws. The only things I can think of, to
at least partially address this, and other issues like it, are compromise tolerance,
and a cool head.
ON BOTH sides. Whether we like it or not, it might work. Seems like nobody wants to try it any more. Until that occurs, this is a war that'll never be won, whether one is for or against the issue. It isn't the whole solution, but it'd sure help. This is not meant to be an attack on anyone who reads it, or a challenge in any way. Just what I'm seein'. My point is, this is a big deal, and it really shouldn't be. Live and let live.

Maybe the don't ask don't tell should be changed to mandatory service for gays.  After all, gihadists are not at all  tolerant of gays, so they should want to join up and serve the country that affords them this freedom.

Pretty simple: If you don't like gay marriage, don't get gay married.

But don't ##% with other people's rights to live their own lives. It's a little selfish, isn't it?

It's not that I think it's ok because I must admit the idea of two guys ....... does make my stomach churn but regardless of what my moral or religious beliefs may be I still don't feel that I have any right to be telling 2 consenting adults what they can or can't do in regards to private matters that aren't any of my business to begin with. It's their choice to make not mine.
