1974 CB350F All Original
« on: October 18, 2014, 08:29:06 AM »
I'm looking for a period correct exhaust thats in pretty good shape.

Doesn't have to be the best looking, i want that patina on there to match the rest of the bike.

I would like for it to be not falling apart and leaking or about to fall apart. And not cost me my lsft ___.

Any recommendations for period correct tire shop is needed too, Appreciate it.

I don't have any intentions of restoring, rebuilding, just want to keep the 40 year patina on it and ride it to different local bike rally/shows.

Thanks for the replies in advance.

4-1/2 years!

Looks like you're problem is solved but I run CB400F pipes with 400F pegs and linkage. Period correct minus 1 year!

Yeah, I'm purdy lazy.

I have several other bikes to play with.

And always broke for some reason or other.

I would have liked to have gotten the 400 setup too, I think it looks great.

Well, got the carbs off, finally, using the ratchet strap method, different to say the least.

Guess you can't reuse the float bowl o-rings, couldn't get those back in.

Carbs are back on, battery charged, dash lights bright, but hit the starter button, and get click, dash lights go dim for a moment, then come bright again.

Click is coming from the starter relay, and when jumped over from post to post, just minimum sparks.

Battery still good ??  Remember to heat those lubed carb rubbers with a heat gun when you take off or install carbs, much easier.

Guess I'm getting lucky with them slipping on and off, just getting the air box out of the way and giving me rome to slide the rack out and in.

Battery seems good I think.

Just when I put the charger on it, it seems to boil over......is that an indication of a bad battery?

If it ain't one thing it's another.

I'm ready to roll this thing to the back yard and set fire to it.

I get the carbs back on, now it won't start, kick it, it starts and only runs one 3 cylinders, no.1 pipe is cold as crap.

So, decide to jump it, now pissing gas, and won't start at all, like it's getting no fire.

Now I think the battery is shot, cause put it on charger, and it boils over, and is now only reading about 9 volts.......geesh, the darn thing is not but a year old.

Do you know what the charging amps are on your charger? If you are getting the fluid to boil that strikes me as a charger problem, not a battery problem, but I could be wrong. For testing purposes you can use a car battery jumped to your stock battery.

Pissing gas from where? A float bowl overflow? The #1 bowl? Your #1 not running issue could be connected if the float is sticking and #1 is flooding.

Be systematic. Pull the #1 plug, is it carbon or fuel fouled? If yes clean and reinstall, if no plug it into the #1 plug wire, hold against the head (with insulated pliers) and crank over looking for a spark.

If you have decent visible spark then the issue is fuel or timing. Remove the float bowl drain screw, does fuel come out? Since it's the #1 bowl you can remove it without taking off the carb and double check the float height.

Thanks for the help Bankerdanny, the charger is new, it was a bad battery.

The carb is leaking, I thought from the fuel line at the tee between 2 and 3.

But now I'm not sure, I pulled the carbs again, and hooked up a temp fuel tank, poured water in it, and it appears to be leaking out of the the carb in between the 2 and 3, but I can't see if it's the bowl, or maybe a cracked carb.

Guess I'm gonna have to tear them completely apart to see.
