I'm checking out a cafe style (gunfighter type) seat on Ebay, has anyone found a nice bolt on seat that they like? The seat pan isn't the greatest on my 76.

Further progress on the 1976 CB 400F project.

I just shot the final clear coat today on the tank and side covers and fenders and will pick up the parts tomorrow from my buddies shop after an overnight drying. Too cold up here now for any painting outside anymore. They came out amazing and I did some further pin striping on the tank and fenders to highlight the two tone colours.

This was a low mileage Shriners bike that unfortunately had sat too long and lots of the chrome parts were beyond saving, so I painted where I could and redid all the graphics on the entire bike bodywork and frame. The bike will be totally done in the next few weeks and I will post some finished pictures of the project.

Another one kept original and saved from the parts bin.

I bought CB 360 forks and they came yesterday. I can confirm they are the same length and diameter as CB 400 F. I'm not sure if the springs are the same, they're as nice as can be expected, I'll do some polishing on the chrome and probably use one side on the red 400 F. It will be nice to get the front end back on with the 750K0 turn signals, I think it will look like an earlier version Honda four. Pics to come as soon as it's looking cool.

Here's 'my' '74 cb350f, in progress - I bought it for $300 bucks from a guy who bought it in '78, crashed it, and stashed it behind the shed ever since. The stock exhaust is riddled with holes so I've acquired a 400f header and pipe in amazing shape, just need the pegs/brake/shifter to finish it off. I say 'my' because it's really my wife's bike, first one ever! We're working on it together so she can get a good understanding of how it all works. In her words, she wants to shock all the gawkers at gas stations when they ask her about her bike and she'll know it inside and out

Engine only has 1,200 miles on it. Very little rust. A massive electrical short destroyed the wiring, so I've rewired the bike with a harness off a donor bike. Fresh oil, rebuilt forks (stock fork covers were cracked from PO accident, so we've gone the gator route), rebuilt carbs with all new bits, master cylinder kit, re-lacing the wheels now, having the seat upholstered, and lots and lots of cleaning. I've fired it up once now, and it sounds awesome. I think it'll pass the 10-foot test once we're done. not going for show bike quality here, just something nice and respectable, reliable, easy to ride for a first timer. Plus it'll look sweet next to my '74 750K

New on the left, original on the right. The new one is a Yamiya repop, purchased already yellow, Somewhere around $100/ set shipped, no painting but no logo either!

$100 for a set of painted side covers is cheap. How's the quality? Are they plastic or fiberglass?

A good vinyl graphics shop would put the graphics together on one transfer sheet so you don't have much trouble aligning it all twice... Granted you have some outlines to go by after the first one is down, but with registration marks when printed and weeded you can align them easily with some practice and they will have uniform black outlines. My ex worked and still works for a printing and vinyl sign industry.

Any recommendations on a headlight bulb for a 76 400F? Has anyone installed a 750 headlight on a 400 bracket? It appears it would need spread 1/4" per side.

Sorry $200 shipped still not bad. They appear original except I think the originals were yellow plastic and these are painted plastic.

Regarding the headlight question I bought a $40 reproduction headlight using a modern H4 bulb from 4 into 1 he has the headlight on at this price regularly. It is a metal bucket and glass front and works much better than the stock sealed beam bulb 35watt unit.
I did have to modify the bottom cutout hole a fair bit in the new bucket to get it around the headlight mounting/signal stem set up the CB400 uses. It fit well after the mods and no bending of the bracket was needed.
I used the same headlight on the CB350F I did last year and it just bolted right up as the headlight ear mounts are more normal on the CB350F.
Here is a side view of the headlight on the CB400F I just finished last month.

i had a 550 headlight on my 400...use thomaselli holders..it looks great vith that big headlight..and easyer to get parabol and bulbs..i slaugthered a windjammer and used the inner parts..) they vas as new(..to fix the rusty innerparts....parabol and clips fit direkt..it even had the euro type Loose bulbs( h4 system)does all windjammer use the euro spec lights ??

I have a fond memory of riding a friends cb400 long ago. Did figure 8's around the parking lot where we worked when I was 19.

That began a ten year journey to find my own cb.

Well...since you showed me yours... I will show you mine...

In fact I have more than five bikes right now and I want to sell this one; but I do not know what I should ask for it.

It is a 1977 CB400F Super Sport... very clean and mostly stock... with 7,800 miles on the clock.
