Hunting for donor parts... That tool is called a piston remover.. ;D

I've had to split the cases, unbolt the rods from the crank, separate the block with pistons and rods still inside, then use a press to remove the pistons from the block. Lol

Its been pretty quiet on the forum lately, I am regrouping and waiting on parts.

Here's another little winter project I picked up. I have a sweet spot for these old GPZ900 Ninjas, having owned and own several. :)

Nice find Dave.

So will you be racing this bike in Valdosta or a Honda SOHC???

I finally got the chance to get back to the Valdosta bike. I started into it today to freshen and port the head and swap out transmission gears and shift forks. Once I tore into the engine I found a complete can of worms, very sloppy work and a number of worn parts. :-\

I managed to replace the transmission gears with a backcut set, new head and cam. After a quick blast down the road yesterday, It seems to shift smoother and has a lot more power.

On a sad side note. :( A couple of long time friends retired after last weekends NHDRO race in INDY, Keith Lynn and Roger Gordon said that last weekend's race would be their last. Keith has decided to retire after 42 years of racing. I have been lucky to have known them both for the past 25 years.

That's a team. They picked their time to walk away.

Now do you think we'll get to see you in Valdosta now that the bike is running right??

Now with my local track closing its test and tune for the season this past Wednesday, I am focusing on trying to have a second bike ready for Valdosta. I have a number of challenges ahead, but Here is my progress after 2 days of work.

Keep it coming Turbo D. You've got the frame formula worked out to a "T".  I'm going with a mono shock set up on my next Honda.

Yeah frank I had to perform one of my world famous "Stretch and Rake" jobs to start out. Lol

Hotdog No I will leave them out, with this primarily a race bike the ability to adjust or replace between rounds is key. My plan is to turbo this one.

Wow, another auto. Good deal. Put the starter clutch and starter back on it and you will be ready for street ET. Something tells me that its a big motor and kick starting it could take a lot of effort. On the other hand, you could leave the outboard starter on it and race in Pro ET. Regardless, I'm happy to see another sohc bike coming to race at Valdosta. This should prove to be a sucessful event as far as the SOHC contingent goes. Hoping some of the SOHC crew can make some rounds on both days.

After day 4 of work I have the "Black Widow" almost rolling. I pulled my back a couple weeks ago and have not been able to work on it much. It does not look good for Valdosta this time around.

Ha ha Don't feel bad Jerry, I can't keep track either. This is the second bike for Valdosta. I was hoping to build one to bring down and come after that ET and MPH money. ;D
