FRIDAY at the track: Tinkerer day when racers put their heads together to make changes= at the Old IDBA races Tony Lee would have folks like Geo Brice get together and give you a school on some race facts = Question ? how many qtrs. oil in a PRO STOCK SUZUKI MOTOR, 1 1/4 -0 WEIGHT= I FELL OFF THE CHAIR..... block holes in clutch basket, like a semi dry clutch, warm up motor without clutch disc in = them pull cover and put in dry-cool pack. Sandy Kosman was also a info giver and PIZZA JOHN MAFARO my favorite= I love when he yelled at me " POPS make them do it right " I must have use 25 rolls of duct tape sealing the air box so no leaks and all pressure pushing fuel into carbs.

Went out in search of alternative fuel sources today. Something to give me that "competitive edge":

I wonder if JATOs permitted in S/ET....  ;)  ;D  8)

NASA fuel does NOT flow very well ;)

I don't know what you have in that 392 motor.............but at the track you may gain a wee-bit by dropping the air-filters, installing open short 'stacks', losing any exhaust baffle, using irridium plugs at one number higher, and filling the tank with some 110 race-gas. Maybe will need to one-up the jets. AND..........just for at the track..........drain about 1-quart of oil to 'get-hot' for every run.

SIMPLE: Try 110 low lead for airplanes, it nice if your friend has a plane and fills up your 5 gallon can while topping off his tanks. Cost way cheaper than race fuel and fuel life is long = planes sit a lot in the hangers and have to work in all kinds of weather. Nutec race fuel gummed up your throttle blades on FI motors and short shelf life. Better read all the facts on a blue can of race fuel= drain or leave in your tank ?????

Nice project
How much boost do you plan on running and
Are you planing on retarding the timing when boost kicks in?
Thanks

Thanks Jim. Since this project is mainly about numbers for me, I will try as much boost as I can (or the turbo will make). I am running the advance mostly stock, I will limit the amount the advancer will advance. It will operate as normal, but keep the timing within a safe zone on top. This has worked well for me on the Kawasaki's. It's cheap and easy to do, no extra gadgets to deal with.

If you can make a KAW fly, that Honda should soar. Before we were putting up the low numbers with nitrous oxide, there was BOOST!!! Nothing like a hair dryer to pull your arms straight and make your lower extremities pucker up tight.

The Turbo bike finally alive (Kinda). I have the bike together enough for a test ride, I still have some loose ends and finishing to do. I have the DOHC regulator wired and working good, The carb needs some jetting.

I have the Turbo bike nearly completed, carb tuning and fuel pump yet. The bike rides and handles nice, I have not leaned on it, I'll wait until It has a few miles and I install a pump.

Looks nice Dave. It's come a long way. I echo Wilbur's comments. Hope everything falls in place so one day we'll get to see you at the track making passes with the rest of us. Sometimes its not easy to make things happen but once there, you'll find it well worth the effort.

Thanks guys. I hope to get the bike to the track before this season is over, to be honest my interest in bikes is swaying once again to race cars, I have been back and forth for years.

Frank I would really like to finally meet up and race with all of you, time and distance being the biggest factor. I wish all of you were closer.

Dave, I'm starting to move back towards drag cars myself. I love the bikes and have more than a few that fit different classes. The problem is we don't have anywhere to run close by. Our local tracks cater to cars and have decent purses so I'm going to get a car ready and begin doing local events. I've got 5 tracks within an hours drive that run weekly programs.

Frank It is similar here, I have a couple tracks within an hour and 8 or so two hours away, they all for the most part cater to cars. Test and tune days are when most of the bikes show up. My biggest problem is that I am the only one in my area building and or running a old SOHC's and while it was fun for a while, I am losing interest.

The nice part about having an older, slows bike is when you do compete in an all bike class against the newer bikes and you win. Makes the effort all the more rewarding. But, even if we never get to see any of your bikes in person, I've enjoyed watching you build them, with your own hands!!

After installing a pump and a little more engine time, I rolled into it a couple times. At about 8-9 pounds of boost the clutch wants no part of it, slips like nothing is there, boost shoots to 15 instantly. I need to figure out how I want to deal with this. I will say that before the clutch gives up, it is hands down the hardest pulling SOHC I have ridden.

Might be time for a cycle exchange lockup clutch to solve the slipping issue.
