So far, throttle tube, start/headlight switch, throttle cables, The entire right control is fubared. She said it was running when parked.
 The PO's Daddy told her not to lie but she lied, she lied, she lied,  I would expect no less.  That's alright, I'm replacing the handlebars anyway.

 I started to print the wiring diagram and the printer's out of ink. Guess it's time to go christmas shopping with the mrs. And get ink.

 Whoever worked on this bike should turn in their tools. Nothing damaging,  just a trail of incompetence. The pipes were not in the heads right and the split clamps were backwards. One set of new points didn't close, the timing was way off. Everything electrical was balky. The manuals included the 75 wiring diagram which features early headlight controls, and the 77 which has a solid state voltage regulator. I got out my jumper from the 76 750F and jumpered out the right controls. All of the lights work and it idles very nice. The push cable is ruined and the pull cable has a piece of bracket hanging on it.

I got the front brakes working, The po loosened the caliper bolts enough for it to roll. L0L! I found enough linkage parts to discover the rears are frozen up too. The throttle pull cable was pushing and it folded over in the right control, I have the push cable pulling now.
 I ended the day with front and rear brakes working, parts of the air box are cleaned and fitted.  One clamp is fubared. I still need a right control, and pull cable.   
   I finally remembered my DSS password and got my order in. wow almost as much as the bike cost. lol.



There is a charity run next week, I'd love to ride this bike in it.

 Dang, I could have used the 75 right hand control and had a headlight switch and saved $30. The order for the 76 is already in, probably gonna have a purple kill button too. It couldn't have been  that hard to wire up. I have a toggle switch working it all now.

The same local facebook trader page has a sweet yellow 77 CB400F for sale, I'm hot after it and first to ask to see it. I'm hoping tonight it may be mine. It looks really good in the pics.

Thanks Cal. this one fell into my lap on the same facebook page as the one last week. What are the odds, it's already yellow.  I can see it tonight and maybe bring it right home with me. The ramps and tie downs are still in the truck. I'll leave the tailgate home this time.

She hardly needs anything, fresh gas, plug caps and a stock airbox. Probably clean the carbies. About a foot of chrome or stainless pipe between the header and the supertrapp muffler.

Look at all the money I saved on paint and decals. I need a right side yellow sidecover. I'd trade a new DSS repro for a used painted one, I think they come black.
 This is the first time I had two projects but no parts bikes. I'm used to having a bunch of parts on the shelves.

z1 enterprises(at least I think that is where I bought them) sells repro covers cast in black plastic

A friend of mine stopped in at the Nashville store. He said that he did not see any antiques being sold but that there was quite a line of people buying the t-shirts and other branded merchandise.

 It's the same in Leclare Ia. Shirts and trinkets are the big business. The antiques are kept for display.
 
 My second DSS order is now waiting on backorder. Originally they said it was all in stock in England and they ship every day so it would be on it's way in two days. I was really hoping for this week. Oh well. It was asking a lot, although Yamiya seems to get it done.

 Here's the plan, modified parts (start/headlight buttons for example) all go on the red bike. New and original go one the Yellow bike. Neither has a stock muffler so sound will dictate.

 I got Yellow running today, Red is back apart, waiting on parts. DSS hasn't got my air filter parts here yet so I ran yellow with the pods. A little choke is all it took to hear it sing. The carbs are lean on the pods for sure as I was expecting. The air is cold and dense today too, making it worse. I gave some thought to adding a plastic disc inside the pods to restrict air flow a little.
 I'm used to a 750 so handling is drasticly different. I like the riding position too. It's really cold and I wore too heavy gloves. The air forks work well so far, I think it once had better rear shocks, it appears the chain guard has been slightly trimmed.

Air forks?   I once had 4 aftermarket sets that I sold on Ebay.  DSS has an outlet 50 miles or so west of me, surprised they don't ship from there....Larry

 The E mail from DSS explained some items shown on the u.s. site are auctually located in England. They ship daily so within two days my order would be on the way. I incorrectly assumed that meant from PA.
 My wife took off on Yellow tonight, it's 40C here and she hates the cold. After a loooong time I worried something happened and jumped in the car. She passed me coming back, said she was going around the neighborhood. She doesn't like the pegs, they get in the way of her ankles. But otherwise I think she liked it.

 I sliced an inch out of the stock seat foam with an electric knife. I'll post pics while I put on the new seat cover.

 I went by the neighbors house at 9K rpm yesterday and today he came over wanting the yellow 77. No money changed hands yet but we made a deal. One of my orders shipped from DSS. I need to see what I'm missing and cancel whatever is holding it up. .  It appears I'm riding red now. My wife said sell, she wants a rebel anyway.

She was an experienced rider, 35 years ago. lol. She fits the rebel better, short on inseam. Doesn't look comfortable on the F at all.
 My goal was to buy and sell a few bikes to finance my Sandcast's exhaust and make some shop money. I was getting attached to this one fast though. I sent a message on an  80 400T. might as well keep going. There are two 78 750's I'm after too.
