I now have one. That damn bubble can be annoying! At least it won't rust and get nasty inside like my old SW gauge did.

The Joker Machine one is really nice and a good robust part. It also allows you to rotate the gauge to exactly where you want it and tighten it down there. Just make sure to use thread sealant if you buy that one.

Thanks guys. I run my bikes several different ways. Two have Derale external coolers. I've always been curious how much of a difference they make. That's why I'm considering the gauges. I had been told that a some of those gauges are better than others (and that some's effectiveness are actually negatively effected by heat, of all things), but I never got an explanation that made sense to me.
What am I doing and why am I doing it? Those are excellent questions.

I use my oil pressure gauge to judge the temperature of the engine, too.  For given oil weight, I can tell by idle pressure if it's fully warmed up or what.

Let's say I am on Skyline drive, going down to Front Royal.  I put it in neutral between 5 ad 4 - my bike kind off developed these neutrals on her own :) - and start gliding down.  On the beginning, idle oil pressure is 20psi, on the bottom after several miles of idling @ 35 mph it is 35psi.

You can tell I like to read my oil pressure gauge, LOL!

I have had this one for 2 or 3 years with no issues at all.It is in the side port that most people use but I'm relocating it up to the speed & tach area now and I'm going to move the pickup where the light gets its signal so the oil line is not to be seen. I like to look at it without having to look down but that is just me others may not like it but I do.

That's actually what I was curious about when starting this thread. I believe that it (water filled) has antifreeze in it. I have also been told that oil filled were better and more accurate, but they both seem to be fairly standard. Really, what's the difference other than the obvious.
What am I doing and why am I doing it? Those are excellent questions.

Mines quite a large face which I find easy to read. It's oil filled. I got mine from a pkace called Hosepower which deals in hydraulics. I also used this liquid green thread sealant that sets as soon as the threads touch. You can undo it afterwards and you only have to do any of the threads up finger tight so it's super easy to adjust the face to get it in the position you want. You can start the engine straight away

It's a typo. If it was water filled, the water would evenutally dry out or start to rust one way or the other. The internal liquid is silicone. These are Marshall gauges and they aren't motorcycle specific. I've seen them in hotrods all the time in the engine compartment.

http://www.marshallinstruments.com/products/MNB00060.cfm

My only recommendation if it matters to you is to go with a white faced one because it's easier to see quickly. I had a black faced one at first, but since my bike crash where the brass NPT elbow got broken, I replaced the gauge with a white face one and it's so much easier to read quickly.

I didn't go with a liquid filled gauge on my bike. 2 reasons, 1st. I 'm cheap, LOL! 2nd. I didn't figure I'ld have to worry about vibrations (with my inline 4 cyl.) causing my needle to be bouncing all over the place (which from my understanding is the reason to use a filled gauge) ! I bought a cheap (like $15.) Sunpro gauge at the local auto parts store. Removed the OEM idiot light, installed the adapter and ran my line through some Heavy clear tubing (to protect it) up to my triple tree, just had to make a little plate to mount it to my handle bar clamps. Even though it has a black face, it came with a built-in light so it is viewable at night. Been using it about 3-4 years now with no problems.   ...cougar...

All great suggestions, except for one thing: the logical way to have this gauge is in fact at the handlebar mount, but not from the (vulnerable, believe me...) side of the motor at the galley (unless you carry the galley nut at all times) but twinned off the existing oil pressure switch outlet behind the cylinders. That way you get the pressure light and the gauge working from the same information. You just lead the line up over the valve cover and onto the gauge, conveniently mounted at the top triple clamp. Read Titan (and others) used to have a kit done this way.

In the 70,s ..to stop needle flutter..we put a mainjet or other restriction in the line/fitting to settle the needle down..... Did the trick
