Topic: CR 750 mudgard

Hi Guys, Need some advice here please. I’m busy building the front mudguard unit for my CR 750 project. From photos vie seen it looks as if the standard bracket was used and modified. Can anyone advise here? Even pictures of the CR bracket without the mudguard blade will be of great help.

If it helps, here are a couple of pics, one of each side, of my attempt at a CR750 fender. Took ages to do because of the (very) tight clearances involved. The central part is made of four pieces brazed together to take into account the curvature of the blade in two directions. The stays are 8mm diameter tube.

Looks good. Is the braket a one piece hoop from left to right shock or two individual halves. Left and right.  Thanks for the help

The bracket is one piece from left fork slider to right fork slider, so the fibreglass blade doesn't take any stress, well I hope not anyway. I'll try to post some more pics tomorrow.

Here you go, more pics. These should show how the central bracket was made. It's constructed out of 4 pieces of 2mm thick mild steel. I made a cardboard template using the second pic below as a guide to get the side pieces to approximately the right shape. Then followed much trial and error to get the side pieces bent to the right profile to clear the tyre and everything else. Then I bent two pieces approximately three quarters of an inch wide over a 4 inch diameter bar, which is just about the same internal shape of the blade. I made some spaces to hold the side pieces at the correct distance apart and then brazed everything together. This produced a step where the two hoops over the tyre meet the side pieces, but when the blade is on gives a perfectly smooth transition from bracket to blade.

Here is the inside of the blade. There are two pieces of mild steel glued in, one at each end and tapped (4mm) to take the screws that hold the blade to the framework as it's all but impossible to get a nut on the inside. I believe Honda did exactly the same.

and finally a close up of the stays. I used 8mm diameter tube, but I couldn't get it to bend correctly, so I made up the end pieces, filed them to shape and brazed them all together.
Overall it took many hours to make this fender/mudguard, but hopefully it's a fair representation of the original.
