CL175 and CL200?

Are these worthy of a restore? Also, I've found a superhawk scrambler. Is that a CL92? It's very rough, more than I would want to take on.

I am restoring a CL175 and have been collecting parts for it. If you don't intend to keep it after the re-build and if it is in pretty rough shape, then no, they don't return enough money to warrant it. I plan on keeping mine for my son when he is old enough.

I would keep it. By worthwhile I guess I meant how big a money hole they would be vs just buying a nice runner.

I guess it depends on what all is wrong with it. Mine is in pretty rough shape and I am going to have to replace a LOT on it plus re-build the engine. But since my son isn't old enough to ride it and won't be for a couple more years, I can take my time and replace parts little by little. A lot of parts are still available for this bike, some parts are cheap, some aren't. Fenders, headlight stays, etc can get spendy. Also a lot of CB175 parts translate to the CL175, so there is another advatage. Once they are up and running they seem to be really strong runners with very little problems if kept up in the maintenance area.

I'd go for it.  Of course, I have a CB175 that I'm piecing back together so I have a very biased opinion.  I'm not looking for a showpiece, but rather a daily commuter that gets high gas milage.  I've got an average suburban commute, so it would work great (no highways...).  It's also a major learning experience as it's really just 1/2 of a SOHC4.  And when I can ever get it running, I'll be much more apt to dig deeper on my only functioning bike to-date (CB550).  I'm kind of paranoid right now about taking down my only scoot.

As tazz indicated, there's not a whole lot of difference between the CB175's & CL175's. 

CL: high side exhaust & matching side covers, longer seat & matching tank, bellows fork tube, etc.
CB: dual low exhaust & matching side covers, shorter seat & matching tank, slider fork tubes, etc.

I've put a CL front end on my CB, and have mixed & matched seats & tanks (the CB tank has a more vertical slope on the rear than the CL).  I'm thinking of a CL exhaust too.

Oconner, the Superhawk came in 250 and 305ccs. The 250 was coded CL72, the 305 was CL77.

The 92 prefix belongs to the Benly series, C92, CA92, CS92 and CB92 and are all 125cc.

I have the '68 CB175 sitting in boxes, awaiting a cosmetic restoration. I was lucky in that it was complete and everything was in good condition, except the exhaust. I couldn't find an OE exhaust so have bought a CL exhaust and will make it into a CB/CL hybrid.

I just love the chrome sided gas tank.

For me it was an emotional purchase as my very first bike was a '72. I just love smaller bikes and can't wait to get it back on the road.

First 'real' bike I ever fell off was a CB72 with CL pipes(and clip ons ;D) gotta love TLS front brake on wet grass.

I've got this CL175. I got one of these used when I was 13, this is it's replacement 35 years later. I rode it to school in the 7th and 8th grade, the 1st year with no license. I always enjoyed it, but it did a lot better on the street than in the dirt. The term scrambler was a little miss-used on this one.

I like the high pipes though. They added nicely to the left side's appearance.

The challenge is finding separate parts. There seems to be a lot of complete bikes, but a dearth of vital parts. It took me a long time to find an exhaust and heatshield (after getting one from CMS which wasn't even for my bike). Old style tank badges show up all the time on eBay. I'll have to fabricate exhaust attachment hardware since that stuff is hard to find, too.

I agree about the high pipe/passenger carrying issue.

Mine is never going to be a show model, just looking for a high-mpg commuter that's reliable.  Particularily one that I brought back to life from the dead.  Asethetics is only what I like, don't really care what others think on this one.  I've got 2 good headers and one serviceable muffler.  The second muffler is for show only, the whole lower body's gone.  I'm still considering the CL exhaust as I don't think there will be a whole lot of 2-up on this one.  But you're right, the 175 stuff is a lot harder to come by than for my 550.

I hear you and share your pain! Oh for a lottery win about now. eBay is a good first place to look (set your 'favourites' as CB175 and CL175 and you get new listings every day sent to your email address)....but bear in mind that I will probably want the same stuff!! Also the VJMC has a good classified ads section in their newsletter.
