Okay some of the conduit is being hung, the box coming in has to be moved to the right a few feet and a huge throw  switch is going in were it was. It will be like the Frankenstein movie throw the switch and it's alive.

This all really should have been happening three years ago, but that's how it goes.

Saw the UPS guy as we were leaving so we flagged him down to see what he had for us.

Finally getting the electrician on the problem.   He's set up with a generator for lights while the breaker box is off the wall.

It had to be moved right a couple feet , and the switch box  on the floor is going on the wall between it an the converters.

He was saying that the power company can tell when a meter goes offline, throws a flag or something. He says they have sent someone out on other jobs when it happens.  I'm not sure if that's why he decided to do this on Christmas eve.

Threw the switch, after a small glitch we threw the switch again and  the Hitachi is online, spins the right direction, 1,000 rpm and goes through a line of code, and people are waiting on sh8.

The Phase Perfect hums slightly louder than a florescent tube or old tv.  It has a readout of draw, shows the hitachi pulling  12 or 14 amps. The power is right at 123 and 246.

Unlike the rotary phase converter, which is just plain  loud, when the  machine is spinning down the PP  sends power back to the grid. With the rotary I think it turns into heat.

We're needing some help with the Wall of Power, here's the unit. It is a GE I believe and is made to jump 220/ 240 to 480  and /or vice versa., or any multiple of voltages determined by a series of jump wires on the coils, pictured.

Three phase power, three coils. Each tab on each of the three is numbered 1-2-3 across the top, 4-5-6 starting on the second row.  The amount of power you get out depends on where you put the jump wires.

The electrician took the tag off the box, now we can't find it, only a 3" square piece of paper.

Anyone got a clue as to this unit and where we need to put the jumpers to get the output for 440 and 380?  ( I think we need 440/480 out , and 380 out has the last box involved.)

If anyone can send any info pertaining to that or a diagram of  the little piece of paper on the door it  would be extremely helpful right now.

I looked it up but can't find the specific model, it's probably 40 years old or more.  It might already be configured for 240 to 480 but we just don't know.

It is 480 out that we want, and then the nest box bumps it down to 380 which is what the Dekel Maho wants. I guess it was designed for European power grid.

Thanks for the replies.

Yep, there's only about 5000 to choose from.

This is what I do, but on transformers 1000 times bigger. I don't do it without the piece of paper. If I was there with my test equipment I think I could bug it out. You want it to be right the first time.

Top photo:
Generally, the taps are for fine tuning the voltage in 2 1/2% steps. You already have 2 phases jumpered 3-4. Did you install those jumpers or were they left over from the last installation? Do you know why the left phase isn't similarly connected?

I think I can make out a delta connection on the X winding. Can't see the connections on the H winding, is there an H0 terminal?

Bottom photo: guessing 480-380 auto transformer?

Yeah, the bottom photo is the 380 step.

The Jumper missing on the left is one that was removed to take a look at what the numbers on the tabs say, but it was in the same position.

And yes, the jumper wires were from the last configuration which we don't know what it was.

I'm not sure about the HO terminals, I know there is a strip of connections under the coils.

Okay, here's a clue. It's a Westinghouse not a GE.  Found one from an e-bay seller that was good enough to post a picture of the plate that is removed. Hip-Hip - Hooray!

We should  be making lots  of chips soon, along with anything else needed.

Okay the whole jump up to 480 was one phase out and it is corrected. The 380  jumpdown box is working and there's just a bit more configuring and computer work for the Dekel Maho to finally be online. The phase correction has the hitachi where it is ready to work for most things.

There is a tool speed multiplyer that fits in the Hitachi collet that is broke so no engraving yet. Not sure what the part is actually called if it's not called a 4x tool speed multiplyer, definitely a backup needed it anyone knows where to get one.

The gearbox on the Moriseiki lathe has one gear buggered, but works in all others.

Bump. Okay anyone know where to get a spindle speed multiplier?   That's what we're looking for.

Yeah no pops, zaps or even a smell of smoke.

The tool changer on the Hitachi which hasn't worked in five years  even started working.

Now we need to start the getting a collection of hones so we can do bores. If anyone [frankenstuff] knows where any are being put in a dumpster go ahead and pull them out for us.  Otherwise the hone is going to be second loneliest machine in the shop.
