LOL, you're a better man than me, Rafi.
Rattle can VHT Black works fine for me on those parts and is much cheaper.

Ha! I've had rather $hitty luck with rattle cans and these parts

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,126735.msg1555691.html#msg1555691

although I did well with the engine. There is no rattle can that matches the specific powder I'm after anyway. Putting away the K2 for the winter was a ridiculously laborious process with all the cleaning and polishing and whatnot. This time around, I'm after permanent finishes with 0%-1% polished aluminum at best (handlebar levers) and <10% chrome overall. All the rest is powder that needs no work once cured.

So I got a call early today from the PC shop saying they were having trouble getting the bearings out of the Lesters. I drove all the way out there to pick them up, only to find that they were trying to save the bearings :o! I said I never asked for that and I'm cool with them being destroyed by side loading, that's what I'm gonna have to do to get them out anyway, only caveman style. The shop had a blind bearing puller which will work better. While I was there, I saw my cases and the cylinders fresh out of the oven cooling off. I asked if I could take them home since I'm already here, that's how I got them so quickly. Bob hadn't gotten around to the head yet because he was going to go grab four new spark plugs before spraying. I had my old ones in the car at the time so I left them there. Hopefully the rest of it all will be home sometime next week. Biggest thing still missing are the covers but Bob assured me there will be no color mismatch if I bring them in separately. Will just have to do one or two more trips I guess.

All pix below are with the flash on, under a bright light. The PC color is called Black Magic which has <5% gloss. Almost no overspray, the very minor spots I noticed wiped clean with some Aircraft Remover paint stripper on a q-tip. Also did that to the upper left side of the mounting bolt hole to ensure electrical contact.

I never really removed the crankcase drain caps, figuring I'd get them out after all the blasting and coating was done. BIG MISTAKE. The first fail was that there were no o-rings under the caps! Second one was that since its and aluminum-aluminum contact, I feared the worst thinking they were melded together from the PC cure. The very frist try with a wrench botched the hex head. Used the Batphone and texted a pic. Bill suggested heat gun which I tried but I wondered if it'd work since both will expand together. So I heated up the surrounding area, then thermal shocked the cap by spraying some cold CRC on the underside. Had to resort to vice grip pliers but they came right off after that. Hopefully no more careless mistakes like this anymore.

Also picked up the aluminum side covers that were done and sitting wrapped up at the shop. Love how these turned out! Was thinking about drilling holes for custom logos, but now I'm thinking I'm going to leave them as is.

All looks good, Mo!   Where'd you source the aluminum side covers?

I've considered PC'n a tank but obviously couldn't PC the stock covers and wouldn't have a match.

Thanks guys!

@Stev-o

Some time last year when I was still brainstorming ideas, I googled for them and this guy turned up.

https://www.facebook.com/precisions.singh/

His business is based somewhere in Cali, but all manufacturing is done somewhere in India. Hand beaten to shape apparently. They seem to fit ok from my mock up. We'll see how they work when its time to put it all together. They make full aluminum cafe body sets too. Unfortunately, the only way to get a hold of him is via Facebook, unless that has changed recently.

It looks like he's based out of San Francisco.  Does he manufacture the parts himself or import them from overseas?

I agree that the PC looks so smooth you might forgo drilling and sticking on emblems.

According to him, its his own biz, but manufacturing is based in India. Does a lot of stuff for Brit bikes is what he told me the last time I got a hold of him. Communication wasn't the easiest IIRC, message, wait for a day or two, read reply, message again etc. Didn't matter to me at the time since I had my hands full with the K2, but I do recall shipping was pretty fast. It does ship from India, so I'd imagine he doesn't make them here, or at least no longer.

Yeah, have seen his alloy tanks before, look pretty nice.

I don't get these guys that only want to be contacted through fb, not the easiest.

There was another guy that made brake lines that I wanted to order from [when Slingshot was on break], I gave up on that guy, it just wasnt worth the hassle. I wanted custom length and he kept asking what make/model bike I had, I had a feeling he would screw it up.
Luckily, Shawn came back and all is well...

Just be careful, i think one member on here was selling an alloy tank, that lost a bit in fit and finish, between the online pic and actual product....not like you can easily send it back...
And check the underneath pics to see how many pieces used and how good the welds look..some are savage.. The better the guy is at forming, the less pieces used..

These are one solid piece with only the tabs welded on. I'm regretting not taking any before pix, the PC is on both sides and may not show the welds right. I'll take a few and post for review here soon. Spent all day cleaning my shop today so nothing got done. But, loving the workplace clean slate.

Oh, no worries. I do remember the bad tank story from a while back but not sure if its the same shop. I bought a new unpainted tank from yamiya via JT during a good sale plus killer exchange rate. Its painted Ford's Mustang GT Race Red and stored away.

All Ballz kit arrived, in went the races promptly. Used a little bit of lube this time, MUCH easier drive as opposed to dry install I did on the K2. Was going to install the VIN tag next, only to find out the butchers have drilled out massive holes where the rivets go  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( ALWAYS something. Need to order/pickup some bulky rivets. I had a Khnisser replacement tag on hand just in case they botched something, so I'm going to use that instead, save the original. Touched up the rear shock mount threads. At least they got them right this time ::)

Who drilled out the VIN plate holes?  The powder coaters?
Regardless, that sucks.

Yea, its the staff there. Last time they botched the tag so I asked them to be careful with it this time. I think they cut off the rivet heads and drilled out the shanks  >:( Bruno at Khnisser recommends drilling new holes anyway, maybe I'll do that a few mm away from the old ones and hide these fat ones under the tag.

I don't know about IN vehicle laws, but modifying the VIN tag is a No-no. Its one thing to replace it, its a whole other thing to alter its location. I'd encourage you to re-install the new tag in the stock location with new rivets, or drive rivets and get over the OCD crap about rivet size. This bike may end up in a State where this little detail about VIN tags matters greatly.
