Handlebar on 650 custom
« on: October 25, 2014, 04:21:33 PM »
Hi all

Newbie here.
I feel a little awkward on the pull back handlebar that came with my 1981 650 custom.
I must admit that it's a little easier on my shoulders.
Could I replace it with one from a standard 650?
I realize that the fork is longer and the rake angle is different on the custom.
Thanks for any input in advance.

I had those Pee Wee Herman bicycle bars on mine too , couldn't stand them either. Although I had a mess of 550 bars around, I opted for some comfortable 7/8" Harley bars... not a big problem but the master cylinder is angled for the original bars, can be corrected  with the 650 standard or aftermarket mc. there are after market masters on E bay for around $45.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.

The standard bars will fit.  Or any 7/8 for that matter.   You might have to get creative with the cable routing or get standard cables also.

I chose a 5" rise and 31" wide for my 650, and there was more room for wires and cables to go an inch higher without changing thing. I tried clubmans first but the cabling was funky and there was clearance issues wit the tank and on the mount when attempting the downward position..... they do fit alright upside down and are comfortable but, they look funny

upside down clubmans on a 650 front end

That looks like a snug fit.
Thanks for posting the pic.
I found and ordered an original CB650 (standard ) bar on ebay.
Hopefully it will be a straightforward switch.
The Pee Wees are easier on my shoulders though and it's going to be a little bit of sacrifice for a better look.
