did the female team really "make" anything. they started with a built frame. then a prefabbed tank(i think), purchased fender, ness wheels, on and on and on. the thing I saw them make was an oil tank-WOW. The show should be called "biker assemble off" oh I almost forgot, they did manage to stick some tubing together for an exhaust. all whining aside, I did like the red bike.

I was thinking the same thing.Seems like all she fabed herself was the seat post. iF I HAD PEOPLE LIKE THAT TO HELP ME I COULD BUILD A HECK OF A NICE BIKE TOO?????? i SHOULD SAY BUILD IT FOR ME ???????

I'd be willing to bet not just engines manufacturers are paying for the bulk of the bikes you see on that show. And if they're not paying for it the producers need to be fired

I don't have cable or watch much TV, but what engine are they all using? S&S? Revtech? The sad thing is that I know those engine manufacturer names solely from watching American Chopper a couple times... and I don't pretend to know anything about choppers. Are all the bikes being built with the same engines on biker buildoff? I'd be willing to bet the motor is always referred to by it's name, as I remember whenever they mentioned components on their bikes it was always, "yeah, we have to mount the S&S motor next" when simply "we have to mount the motor" would do...

Rick Fairless used a triumph engine, and I thought the bike was awesome.  As for the people, he unfortunately lost because of them.  As for "American Made", I ask this question, Where does Honda build most of their bikes these days?  If I'm not mistaken the Goldwing is built right here in the good old USA, in Ohio.

Accessorizing Vs. Modification...

That's something that was going through my head on the way home from work the other day.

All things considered, I thought it was a pretty weak episode. The woman spent more time shoving her boobs out and talking about how she was the "real deal" than she did actually putting anything together...let alone doing any fabrication. I only remember one scene where she actually bent something; rod for a seat support I think. Sure, having a "team" of guys helping you out is great, but c'mon! Maybe ratings are dropping and they're throwing some cheesecake in there to boost them back up.

I'M REALLY STARTING TO HATE THE DAMN V-TWIN!!

Not so much 'hate' for me, but I wonder why someone doesn't break the mould and use something different for motivation.

I believe that the guy that got beat in the episode with the races was using a KTM motor.

It was mentioned above, Rick Fairless didn't use a V-twin though it went into a hideous looking bike, a KTM motor was used once as well and lost. I still like seeing the few builders (like Hotch) who use vintage motors and build them up instead of swiping the credit card and having a shiny built motor show up in a box.

I saw the Mondays episode, thought it was really weak, I did like the bike she built but she didn't really build it. She brought in a bunch of builders that could build it and threw in her ideas and occasionally picked up a tool. How about the end where all she did was try to kick start the thing, when it came down to trouble shooting why it wouldn't fire she stood back and watched someone else work on the bike.

I'm just getting tired of them building the same ugly bike show after show.

I don't understand why people love harley v-twins anyway. To me it looks all wrong. I like Moto-Guzzi's and BMW flat-twins. And Ducati's.
If you would have $50.000 to spend on a chopper, would you like it to have the same S&S engine as all the other "custom" choppers?

Are you talking about the 'distinctive' sound of a 45 degree single crankpin motor, or the pervasive noise of un baffled motorcycle engines.

They tried to patent the former, and it's de rigeur anyway to experience the latter with some cruisers and sportbikes.

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

People who spend 50k on a chopper don't know the difference, don't care about the difference, or think that an $&$ engine is worth that much.

Personally, I like Biker Build Off.  As an "artist who loves all things with gas engines trapped in a corporate tool who sits in front of a computer and attends meetings all day", I like seeing what they come up with. I don't watch the show religiously, but there are usually some pretty cool things going on.

For the show, they have a theme. Usually it's choppers. How different can you make a chopper? Well, it's up to the builder, but it's the cool little details and problem solving that make the show for me. For example, a couple weeks ago the guy puts the tank on the frame and it's obviously too small. There's no time to make another. So he cuts another tank in half and welds it onto the current tank, then connects them with some braided hose or something. It looked alien-esque. That is why I watch the show. Little gems like that, where a problem becomes an asset through some creative problem solving.

And just to play devils advocate - go look through the gallery. When you get down to it, how different are our bikes from each other? I think that the choppers from the show stand out from each other more than the SOHC4s here. <flame suite on>

That's a pretty strong statement there.  and i'd like to tell you a little story of my uncle Eddy.  he is the stereotypical hard luck case born of the hippie era.  never had an ounce of money,  he's worked for boeing for 20+ years now to do nothing but put food on the table for his wife and five children.  he drives a 30 year old retired ambulance because he can't afford a new car.  most of his teeth are gone, etc., etc.
if you saw this 6'5" 250+pounder long haired guy in an alley you would not just turn away you would run away... and, unbeknownst to you he is really one of the sweetest teddy bear guys you'd ever meet.
he's had a few bikes here and there but always old beaters that really just sat outside collecting dust and rainwater.

but, he doesn't mind the life he lives, in fact, he likes it.  he appreciates what he has and that's the best he can do.

when my grandma (his mother) died he inherited 50,000dollars.  the stipulation was that the money was for him.  grandma realized his unselfishness with his family and decided he also needed to finally be his own man.

after 40 years, he is finally the owner of his dream 50 thousand dollar chopper.  it's loud, it's raked, it's got a fatty tire on the back, it's got an s&s motor that really IS one of the best vtwin motors on the market... and.............. he knows the difference!  hopefully it wont be breaking any time soon but you can also bet he knows how to fix it.

i think that many of us on here have mistaken the idea of having money to throw around with the idea of having money to throw away... everyone i know, rich/poor or whatever... spend their money on what makes them happy, not what makes me or you happy.
i find it humorous that the harley riders are the ones we consider the haters but, well...  :-X

The reason we ALL do motorcycles is because we can DO IT OUR WAY. I figured this out after going on the Slimey Crud Run. Bikes of all types, sizes, and makes. Most of the dirt bikes were at the local hill climb, but nonetheless everyone was doing it their way.

I still think the "Gypsy" bike was just as much bull#$%* as any of the other ones. When you build a bike for a build off, then build it DAMN IT!. Instead it was a meeting of the buddies donating parts and THIER LABOR.

Jesse Rooke built the bike that went against Roland Sands in Biker Build Off. It used a KTM LC8 motor out of the KTM Adventure 950. I like the fact that it doesn't have chrome and fins all over the motor. It's just a kick ass engine that does it's job very well.

Darla

This bike is completely badass. I never saw the show, but if I had to wager, this bike got beat because of the hardtail. Sand's bike had a great suspension, so it could just waste a hardtail through the corners.
