Topic: Using some case sealer(#4 semi-drying)& wondered how long to dry ?

I'm bonding the cases together & using some  yamabond 4 semi-drying case sealer and want to know how long I should let the engine cases cure w/ it until i put it into service ? My garage space isn't heated and it gets to about 34 degrees at night.

Bump, Does anyone on here have any experience w/ Yamabond 4 in cooler weather ??

No real experience with that situation. But twere me, I'd pass a hairdryer or heat gun over the sealing surfaces. Also give the sealer a chance to get to room temp by storing it in house overnight. Then apply to warmed surface. 5 minutes to set up should be plenty to get tacky. Then assemble. Again, my best speculation.

Thanks for posting to this Ron,I'm working out of storage is the thing..w/ no electricity avail. This is on an assembled machine and the part attaches to the crankcase w/ the bike all together already so temps will stay about high 30's - 40's

as a case sealer, the colder temps (low 50's) made my threebond 1184 set up in about half the time.  I had done it once before but ambient temps were above 70F
by the time i finished running the bead all the way around, the first part was still pliable, but would not cling to my finger.
still sealed well, though.  It was ok though....cleaning up the stringy bits was much easier

Which part is it? A cover? With a gasket? I'd get the cover inside to warm up, apply the warm sealer, let sit for 5 mins till tacky, apply the gasket. Go outside, offer the cover to the case dry.

I apologize for posting in the 'SOHC/4 Bikes' section because I should have used 'Other bikes'...      

 I have this little 2 stroke..and I'm applying a few dabs of it to the bottom of a rubber coated oem steel reed plate where the the intake manifold(4 bolts) bolts it down onto the crankcase and there will be engine vacuum and crankcase pressure involved w/ the seal along w/ premix gasoline.

Still, same idea, get what you can up to warm temp. And proceed. Per flybox, it is probably fine regardless.

 Could I follow the directions: "assemble parts within 5 minutes of applying"..,like apply the stuff to the part(reed cage)and some on the cold crankcase & then keep the reed cage in my car w/ the heat on for a few minutes and then promptly apply it to the  crankcase and snug it ?
I imagine engine heat would cure it more after installation but I probably should give it some cure time before putting the little bike back into service considering the engine vacuum and fuel premix.  thanks

Yeah, that sounds good.

I just called/spoke w/ a Yamaha dealer dude that i know and he said "the cold makes that stuff take a bit longer to dry/cure...possibly wait 2 hrs. before mating the parts back together and then 2 days before actually running it"

That's the reverse of what Flybox experienced. But I don't think it matters, in the final analysis.

The package says 'semi-drying' so I guess allowing to air dry a bit might be ok;I hope it's warmer tomorrow & I'll give it a go. the stuff is thick enough and not watery like the 'new' unopened tube i had that was over 10 yrs. Old.  I borrowed this partial tube from a local who also does transmission work.This Yamabond 4 has 'Marine' designation on it & it's in a caulking type dispenser & less than a yr. old.
